Mini Updates

I've promised updates over the past few months on a few things, so here we go...

1) My Kindle. I'm still loving it! It's so easy to use. I love buying books - especially new releases - right away. I also like being able to support my blog buddies who have their books in e-versions only. I have about 15 or 20 blog buddy books on my Kindle right now and know I'll be buying more. The prices are usually better on the Kindle which is nice too. I still buy a ton of 'real' books - I'm a bit of an addict, especially for my classroom - but I'm loving the ebooks too.

The battery is great. It actually seems to hold longer when I'm using it frequently which is kind of odd. The charge tends to last several weeks.

The only down side I've experienced so far is downloading. Some books don't instantly arrive. Others do. I have a 'lite' internet connection and I think that's the problem. It sometimes takes me several attempts to get the book onto the device. I have to resend it from the Kindle site. All of the books eventually arrive, but it can take a bit of time.

Overall though - loving it!

2) Word Verification. Ages ago I asked my fellow bloggers how they felt about having to type in word verification. The results were mixed. A few friends had real nightmares and have VERY good reasons for having both word verification and comment moderation. Overall most people hadn't experienced many problems though. The first week I removed the word verification, I had a few comments from people who obviously didn't read the blog - and really just wanted me to click their link. Don't know if there was anything evil lurking at the other end of the link because I never clicked. It was painfully obvious these weren't real commenters interested in my site. Since then I've had zero incidents.

Hope I didn't jinx myself.

3) Blog Buddy Books. I've read several now and I've gotta say - I've gotten to know some mighty talented folks! My most recent reads are:

Dogsled Dreams by Terry Lynn Johnson - a fantastic MG adventure - my students are LOVING it!
The Hating Game by Talli Roland - a laugh-out-loud romantic comedy with fabulous characters
Breakthrough by Stephen Tremp - a wild science fiction adventure into the land of wormholes
When Danger Calls by Terry O'Dell - an awesome romantic suspense with characters you think you know
CassaStar by Alex J. Cavanaugh - fabulous sci-fi adventure with tons of suspense

These are all great reads!!! Hope you have a chance to read them too!

Next up?

The Prairie Grass Murders by Patricia Stoltey
Across the Universe by Beth Revis
Perilous by Tamara Hart Heiner
Chasing the Dark by Lisa Rusczyk
Veiled in Shadows by Allan Russell
Notes From Nadir by Lisa Maliga

There are so many more great books I'm waiting to buy from my other blog buddies, but I'm still paying off those Christmas bills! I'll get to everyone - promise!
So, now you're updated! What's new in your world??? :)

The more I read about Kindles and Nooks, the more I think maybe one of these days. It would be handy. It's good to know you're still liking yours.

We still have snow and it's been almost a week. I am so tired of it and can't wait for Spring to arrive.

I have to agree with you that those are some very talented bloggers/authors.

Mason - 'still have snow' totally cracked me up!! We have snow until the middle of April usually! :) Different perspective!

Stephanie Thornton said...

I'm with you on the snow- we'll have snow until at least April, sometimes longer. And we've had it since October!

I got a Nook for Christmas and I love it for traveling. I still prefer paper books when I'm cuddled up at home, but the Nook is awesome for travel!

Jemi Fraser said...

Stephanie - you'll probably always have it for a month or so longer than we do here! We didn't get it to stay until the last week in November this year!

Traveling is when I fell in love with my Kindle too!

Colene Murphy said...

Still not sold on the kindles and nooks. Nope. Not for this gal. BUT it is awesome that you have read and will read so many blog bud books! Loved ATU! Hope you do too!

TK Richardson said...

Jemi, my kids received Nooks for Christmas and they're really enjoying them. I don't have one yet, but maybe soon. We'll see... And we don't have snow here - ever. *sigh* :)

Anita Saxena said...

I love my Nook. Yea for e-readers! I recently read Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins on it. It downloaded right away. Highly suggest adding it to your to be read list, that is if you haven't read it already.

Sharon K. Mayhew said...

Thanks for the review on your Kindle...I haven't bought one yet.

A couple of your books are on my to be bought list. We were going to the bookstore today, but it got dark and started snowing...

Katie said...

You are definitely making me want a Kindle. I am the kind of person that thinks, "NOOO!!! I'll never betray my books like that." But the more I read about them and the more I see that people absolutely LOVE them, the more I want one! Plus you're so right about getting books faster and easier. I'm super jealous at this moment. But I have a question. Do you ever find yourself skipping over going to the bookstore because it's just easier to download a book? That's my favorite part of books, really. I love the experience of going to a store and thoughtfully picking a book! How do you feel about that?

Thanks for the update!

Anonymous said...

I think this is the 3rd tim I'v said this today.... I want an e reader!!!!
My novel is at the editors... so I'm really close to subbing it yippee!!

Jemi Fraser said...

Colene - I love reading books by people I 'know'! :) I loved Beth's first chapter & I know I'll love the rest!

Jemi Fraser said...

TK - what an awesome gift idea for the kids! :) I can't imagine not having snow - must be bizarre!

Jemi Fraser said...

Anita - Anna & the French Kiss has been on my wishlist for ages - I've heard so many good things about it :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Sharon - I really wasn't sure about e-readers until my family bought me one for my birthday - I'm loving it! Hope you can get out soon :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Katie - good question! I don't think I would have bought myself an ereader - but my family bought it for me and I love it. I do love bookstores too - and I still go, probably too often :) As a teacher I buy a lot of books for my class and there are some books I just need in physical form :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Michelle - yay! It won't be long before I'm adding your book to my list! Can't wait :)

Karen Strong said...

Jemi I adore my Kindle. I take it everywhere with me. Sometimes I even read on my phone. Right now I'm reading ACROSS THE UNIVERSE and it 's great so far.

Jemi Fraser said...

Karen - It's amazing how quickly I got used to taking my Kindle along. I love it! I can't wait to get to Beth's book too - I loved the first chapter she posted online!

Old Kitty said...

Glad your enjoying your kindle!!! I'm resisting! LOL!!!!

Oooh such great reads from fabulously talented bloggers!!! I'm currently reading Cassastar and enjoying it thoroughly!!!

Have a great weekend!! Take care
x

Jemi Fraser said...

Old Kitty - lol :) I resisted until my family treated me for my birthday!

Loved Alex's CassaStar! Such a great set of characters :)

Unknown said...

You've got a great list of read & TBR books--I'm going to have to check some out! Read ACROSS THE UNIVERSE and it was amazing. Plus, a really cool cover.

Yeah, I like my Kindle if for nothing else than the simplicity of it: easy to buy, easy to transport, easy to organize & easy to read. But I still prefer dead tree books! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Mary - I do! I can't wait to find the time to read them all!!

I mostly use my Kindle for travelling and for waiting in offices but I'm using it more at home too :)

Elizabeth Spann Craig said...

Great update, Jemi! I love my Kindle, too...and am amazed at that battery.

As far as word verification, I rarely have problems with spammers...when I have spam, I just delete it. I think the commenters understand when they notice the occasional spam before I have a chance to delete it. :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Elizabeth - thanks :) The battery is amazing.

I agree - I've had very few issues with spammers and hope it continues that way!

Unknown said...

I've had my Kindle for two months now, and I love it too. I think I read even faster with it. I have the lighted cover, which is awesome, and I think that helps reduce my eyestrain even more. The words are so crisp on the Kindle that I have no problem reading it without my contacts in--something I can't do with a computer. I can read a regular book without contacts if the font isn't too tiny, but the words are a little fuzzy.

Lola Sharp said...

Call me a romantic, a Luddite, old fashioned, lame...but I love, LOVE, real tangible books (that I own, and can loan/trade and make notes in the margins and read on the beach or in the tub...) and real books stores. No e-reader for me. But, I respect the reasons others love them, and their right to do so.

Have a wonderful weekend, Jemi. :)
Love,
Lola

A great list of wonderful books and authors. Yep, I've got to get myself a kindle some day.

Glad you like your Kindle. And thanks for downloading an dreading Breakthrough. Very cool! We're waiting for some of the iPad's cometitor models to come out this spring and may buy one of those. I also have Patricia Stoltey's book on my TBR read.

storyqueen said...

Thanks for the heads up about some new books!

And I remain kindle-less.....

RHYTHM AND RHYME said...

I don;t have a kindle but you certainly have given some good ideas for reading.

Yvonne.

Jemi Fraser said...

Mary - I know what you mean! My contacts can get really annoyed by small fonts too - but I have no troubles at all with the Kindle! I didn't include your book on my list above as I've mentioned before it was the first one I downloaded when I got the Kindle :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Lola - I know what you mean - there are some books that are just meant to be cherished and held. I'll never give up my 'real' books completely :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Teresa - all the books I've read so far are terrific! I'm looking forward to reading the rest :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Stephen - I really enjoyed Breakthrough - looking forward to seeing what Chase and the group are up to next! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Story Queen - the authors really are terrific - you'll enjoy the books! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Yvonne - I have a hard copy of some of those books - others are on the Kindle. Either way they are fabulous books!!!

TerryLynnJohnson said...

I just got a Kobo and I'm loving the ease of buying new releases! I'm with you, next on my reads is Perilous and Across the Universe!
Great post about some awesome new authors. Thank you for the shout out too!

Jemi Fraser said...

Terry - that's one of the best parts of an ereader I think!

There are so many great books out there - can't wait to read even more! :) And you're very welcome - it's such a good book!

Tamika: said...

I adore the Kindle! My husband thinks my goal is to fill the library in a matter of days, buying books is a bit addicting:)

Jemi Fraser said...

Tamika - no kidding! I'm glad it's not obvious how many books should be sitting on my shelf right now!! :)

Lenny Lee said...

hi miss jemi! i dont have a kindle but im just happy having for real books to read. sound like cause of getting that kindle it got you reading lots more stuff. maybe some day i could get one but the truth is i like the feel of a book and i like turning pages and using cool bookmarks.
...hugs from lenny

Susan Gourley/Kelley said...

My son loves the Kindle I bought him for Christmas and my daughter loves her Nook. My husband bought me a Kobo though I would rather have one of the others I'm happy to have any type.
I have a few of the books you listed on my TBR list.

Golden Eagle said...

Thanks for the update!

I've never tried reading from an electronic device--never appealed to me, but I'll probably end up using it sometime since everything seems to be heading in that direction . . .

Jemi Fraser said...

Lenny - I like using my cool bookmarks too! I've always had a weakness for a good bookmark! I don't imagine I'll ever give up my 'real' books - but the Kindle is fabulous for travelling and for waiting in places :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Susan - I've got both of yours on my next list of 'to buys'! :)

You've got the market pretty well covered in your house! Love it!

Jemi Fraser said...

The Golden Eagle - my family bought it for me for my birthday. Living in Northern Ontario it takes us hours if we're traveling anywhere & I LOVE it for that! :)

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Hey Jemi! Glad you enjoyed CassaStar so much. And I've had no problems without the word verification. I don't think you jinxed yourself.

VR Barkowski said...

My only issues with spammers have been tied to anonymous comments - so I don't allow them. Turning off word verification hasn't made a difference one way or the other.

So far I haven't used my Kindle for "regular" reading, just travel. But last night I noticed the uncomfortable weight of the hardback I was reading before bed... does this mean I'm caving?

Jemi Fraser said...

Alex - it's SUCH a good book! Can't wait for the sequel you're working on :)

Cross your fingers!

Jemi Fraser said...

VR - I think there's more fear out there than is maybe necessary. Although I know of 2 fabulous people who've had some serious issues. Hoping it keeps working for me!

I think it might! I mostly use mine for travel and it's in my purse for those random waiting times in life. But I'm reading more in my regular life too :)

kathrynjankowski said...

I can't afford a Kindle, which is okay, as I just bring light paperbacks when I travel.

Haven't used Word Verification, although I do jot down some of the more intriguing ones from other sites for possible use in future stories. Doesn't sound like you've jinxed yourself, especially since you don't jump on every link. Smart move.

Jemi Fraser said...

Kathryn - that's what I always did too. My hubby would laugh at how many I pack, so this hides how much I read from him :)

I've used some of the words from word verification for some inspiration as well! :)

Yvonne Osborne said...

I like paper. I'm still leery of the kindle thing. My sister has one. Likes it. Takes it to bed with her. Not me. Cheaper than print just means less royalties for authors, No?

Jemi Fraser said...

Yvonne - Actually from what a few published authors tell me, they're getting more royalties from the ebook sales. But I'm not sure if that's a consistent thing or not. I still love my 'real' books and always will - but I love my Kindle too :)

Susan J. Reinhardt said...

I use word verification. It helps cut down on the spammers, but one or two still get through. When that happens, I put comment moderation on, and they go away.

I've been toying with the idea of buying a Kindle, but there are drawbacks. When I finish a book, I let my Mom and her friend read it. Sometimes, I'll do giveaways or donate them to charity. I couldn't do that with ebooks.

Jemi Fraser said...

Susan - thankfully, there haven't been as many spammers trolling my neck of the woods recently. They really are annoying. I don't understand why they think irritating people is fun!

You're right - that is one of the drawbacks to the Kindle. I won't use it for the books I want for the classroom either - obviously. It's not perfect, but I'm enjoying it! :)

Talli Roland said...

Yay! Thank you so much for getting my novel - and I'm so happy you enjoyed it! I love the variety of books available on Kindle. And, of course, the prices are pretty good too!

RaShelle Workman said...

Hey Jemi - I'm such a bookaholic. I love the feel, touch, taste (whoops) smell of them. But, I'm beginning to think I might NEED a kindle as well. Yes, I said NEED. LOL. I'm still dying to read Talli's book. It's in my TBR.

WritingNut said...

I'm still not sold on the kindle as yet, but I'm glad you enjoyed those books. They're great! I have Alex's on my shelf, and Talli's on my "PC" kindle, and I am definitely going to check out the rest :)

L. Diane Wolfe said...

I miss having tons of time to read...

Jemi Fraser said...

Talli - there are so many good books - and I LOVED yours :) - such a fun read!! I've ordered more than I'll read in the next few months - they're hard to resist!

Jemi Fraser said...

RaShelle - I never actually thought I'd get an ereader, but my daughter is a pretty smart cookie and she realized how much I'd love it!! :) You'll love Talli's book - such a fun read!

Jemi Fraser said...

Writing Nut - they're especially great if you do a lot of traveling or commuting or waiting in doctor's offices :) You'll love both of those books!

Jemi Fraser said...

Diane - me too! I've managed to get a few books in, but there's just never enough time to read as many as I'd like! :)

Anonymous said...

I tend to use the Kindle app on my phone more than my actual Kindle because of portability. Still, I love my Kindle. And I love waking up in the morning to see a pre-ordered book appear on the launch date. It's like a gift to myself.

I've come across many awesome books by bloggers.

Jemi Fraser said...

Medeia - exactly! It's a lot of fun when the book just pops up the moment you want it! :)

It's been great having the chance to read so many books by friends :)

Patti Lacy said...

I believe you read like me! My feeling on the Kindle at this point is 50/50, tho'.

I'm usually an early adopter of new tech stuff, but I've been dragging my feet on Kindle. Thanks for telling me what you think. I'm adding that information to my YES column.

Jemi Fraser said...

Jemi Fraser said...

Lee - you're welcome! It was a gift from my family and it's sure a good one! :)

I do enjoy my Kindle. If I love a book, I find myself wishing I had the hardcover. Oh well. I'll still read both and buy both.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for your thoughts on the Kindle Jemi. My sister just received the Kolbe, due to hearing it will tie into the Canadian libraries. I'm still deciding. I do want an e-reader especially to recieve the books you mentioned quickly since some are not available at Amazon.ca yet!

Margo Berendsen said...

I'm still in the death throes of the Kindle vs. Nook debate. The iPad is just out of my price range. Since I can't decide, I keep waiting to see if Kindle comes out with a color version with a browser. That will definitely sway me!

Meanwhile I started using Kindle on my PC just to get a taste for e-readers. like the instant access to new releases too and the cheaper price for a lot of small press books! May I recommend adding "Life Liberty and Pursuit" by Susan Kaye Quinn to your list of blogger's books? (if you like light romance). I am dedicating more funds and time to reading bloggy friends' books this year, too.

Lisa Gail Green said...

Great updates! Funny - my kindle doesn't seem to hold its charge as long! But I haven't had any problems (knock on wood) downloading. :D

Beth said...

Thanks for the book recommendations. You've got a lot of reading ahead of you!

I turned off word verification as well, and so far I've had no major issues. *knock on wood*. :)

Tiana Smith said...

I'm glad you're still liking your Kindle :) I still haven't gotten an ereader yet because I'm waiting for some of my favorites to be available in that form. I also don't have word verification. It works for me :)

Talei said...

Ooh I see a few books on my list here and a few I need to add! Thanks for the updates. ;)

Jemi Fraser said...

Laura - sounds very much like my system. I do love my 'real' books, but I love my Kindle too! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Lynn - exactly! I can't buy books through Amazon.com when they aren't available in Canada. I don't know how the Internet know these things, but it does! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Margo - thank you! I love all different kinds of romance. I'll definitely add Susan's book to my list! That'll be 2 Susan's on my To Be Bought list :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Lisa - I think the problem is more on my end than the Kindle end. That lite speed Internet download can sometimes cause troubles :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Beth - I most certainly do! Now just to conjure up the time to do it all!! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Lynda - yay!! Have fun with it!! I really enjoy mine :)

Jemi Fraser said...

DL - cross our fingers, knock on wood, maybe even throw a little salt over the shoulder!! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Tiana - I like having my books both ways so it works really well for me! I'm hoping the lack of word verification works for me too! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Talei - any time! There are so many good books out there! I'd love to be able to buy them all! :)

Megan Frances Abrahams said...

Funny that we think of books printed on paper as "real" books... I agree about the convenience of the Kindle, and I love the dictionary function. I took my Kindle to Europe last summer. Before I left I downloaded a few novels, a guidebook and a learn-to-speak Italian book. It was great not to have to lug around a bunch of real books. I just ordered the Kindle clip-on light which I can't wait to try.

I still buy real books too.

Thanks for the reading list.

Lydia Kang said...

I love seeing that huge list of books from our blogging buddies! It's awesome!

Jemi Fraser said...

Megan - you're welcome! It is FANTASTIC for traveling. I haven't ordered the light yet, but I think that's an awesome idea! I'll have to hint of my next birthday :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Lydia - it is awesome isn't it! THere are so many great authors I've gotten to know!!

In fact I just ordered 2 more tonight - Susan Gourley's and Susan Kaye Quinn's! :)

Paul Greci said...

I loved Dogsled Dreams, and am in the middle of Across the Universe right now. I'll be adding a few books to my list from yours. Thanks!

Jemi Fraser said...

Paul - I loved Dogsled Dreams too! Glad I could suggest more reading materials - enjoy! :)

I love my Kindle and the great prices on books. I got the 3G and so far no downloading problems. I agree about the battery life-amazing how long it lasts.
Also read and loved Terry's Dogsled Dreams and can't wait to read Beth's:)

Arlee Bird said...

I still haven't crossed over into the Kindle zone. Maybe I'll do it before my next epic vacation so I can bring a lot of books without having to actually carry books.

I haven't had much problem at all having removed Word Verification, but I have seen other bloggers continuing to get weird spam. Wonder why some bloggers are besieged and others arent'?

It's pretty cool to read a book by someone you "know". It's like brushing against our own potential publishing success of the future.

To be honest, I don't know which version of Kindle I have - I'm not good at keeping track of these things :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Lee - exactly! It's fun to read friends' books - love 'knowing' the author. It also gives me a little bit of hope! :)

I think you'd love an ereader for those huge vacations of yours. You can have dozens and dozens of books in one small package!

I bought a Nook over a year ago rather than the Kindle, mainly because I could go hands on into the local B&N store. Like you with the Kindle, I love the Nook. And like you, I've been able to support our wonderful blogger friends. I really like The Hating Game and Perilous. Cassastar is in the lineup, and I'm into Notes from Nadir. I read Prairie Grass Murders some time ago in paperback, thought it was awesome, and wrote a review of it on my blog. I'm anxious to read Dogsled Dreams but will have to wait until Feb. to buy it. There are others on your list also that I want to read. I'm "old-fashioned" when it comes to books; I love print books, but I can't afford to buy them anymore, as many people can't, so I think e-books are a great blessing for book lovers. And I think the e-reader is easier on "old" eyes! Also, I've never had any trouble with the downloads. I'm pleased about that.

I hate word verification and wish everyone would stop using it. It wastes time! Blogger now weeds out most spam anyway. I've never used it, and never had any trouble. If something "weird" gets through, I simply trash it.

Hope you're having a great week!!!! Thanks for stopping by my blog last night. Always nice to see your "face."

Jemi Fraser said...

Ann - I didn't really consider the Nook because we don't have any B&N in my part of Canada & Kindle was the one with the least problems downloading in Canada according to my research. I've heard lots of people who love their Nooks though! :)

We've read so many of the same books! Love it! It's so much fun knowing authors and reading their stuff.

I just delete the odd stuff too. It hasn't happened in ages *crossing my fingers now!* :) Hope it keeps up!

Kathi Oram Peterson said...

I received a Kindle and I love it. I think my reading speed has increased, which is great. And I read on another blog that you can download a manuscript on it. I have to check that out.

Glad to see you're busy reading so many books from friends you've made by blogging. Very inspiring!

Jemi Fraser said...

Kathi - I love it too! I haven't tried downloading a manuscript yet, but it would be fun to see it 'in print' once I'm at that stage. I imagine it would be a good way to catch a few errors! :)

Julie Musil said...

Thanks for the updates, Jemi. I'm so glad you're enjoying your Kindle. I'm still old fashioned about paper books, but maybe some day I'll convert.

As for word verification, I've never liked it. If I had problems with weird comments, I'd put it back on. So far, I don't miss it. And boy, I like visiting blogs that don't have it!

And you are one heck of a supportive blogger. It's amazing that you've read all those books from our blogging buddies.

Jemi Fraser said...

Julie - I do love my paper books too - but the Kindle is a lovely new addition to the collection! :)

I totally agree - no word verification sure makes blogging faster! I get to visit a lot more people in the same time if they don't have it!

Thanks! I've read a few more, but those were earlier and I'd already mentioned them - now I feel like I've slighted them a bit!!! :)

Rosalind Adam said...

Not yet got a Kindle but I'm thinking about it so it was good to hear how you're getting on with yours. I don't like having to enter Word Verifications. I removed this from my blog about six months ago and so far all has been fine (hope I haven't jinxed myself too.)

Jean said...

I find that my ereader battery goes dead if I don't read it for awhile since I tend to leave it in 'sleep' mode instead of shutting it down completely. Maybe the Kindle is similar?

I think word verification is a smart idea. And yes, those seemingly didn't-read-your-blog comments are just what you say they are. SPAM folks hoping you will click on their link. Don't do it! Some are bad, very bad. Or so I've heard. Like you, I haven't actually tested it.

Shelley Sly said...

Thanks for the list of blog buddy books. I have many of those on my list, too. Just need to find the time to read!

Hope you continue to enjoy your Kindle!

Jemi Fraser said...

Tara - me too! You'll really enjoy Terry's stuff. I've read several of her books now and loved them all! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Rosalind - we'll both have to cross our fingers for a bit to make sure!! :)

The Kindle is great - especially for travelling :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Jean - I don't think I'll be testing it any time soon! :)

I think you're right - the more I use the Kindle, the longer the battery seems to last - very odd!

Jemi Fraser said...

Shelley - that's EXACTLY the problem!!! Lots of great books - just nowhere near enough time to read them all :)

Patricia Stoltey said...

Jemi, Thanks so much for adding The Prairie Grass Murders to your e-book list. I also received a Kindle for Christmas but haven't used it too much yet since I still have stacks and stacks of hardcover and paperbacks to read at home. I'm anticipating the Kindle will come in very handy when I travel...and many of the books on your list are on my To Be Purchased list as well.

Jemi, I bought Nooks for my kids for Christmas and they love them! I haven't bought myself one, yet. Maybe soon. I love how easy it is - when you want a book you just buy it. No more driving to the book store, etc. Of course it might make me lazy, or spoiled, or well, you get the idea. :)

Happy New Year, Heidi! :)

I do love my 'real' books too - but the Kindle is fabulous for so many things :)

Victoria - thanks for the tip - I'm off to a hockey game right now but I'll check in when I'm back - sounds like fun!! :)

I agree - I do love pages! :)

Laughing Wolf - the iPad was out of the budget at the time (still is!). I hear they're definitely worth saving up for though - have fun!! :)

TK - lol - I can't imagine you being lazy for even a minute!!! :)

What a fabulous gift for your kids! I bet they just love them! You're such a good mom!

I get spam sometimes with no word verification, but it goes automatically to my spam folder anyway! I like not having it on my blog. That's five more seconds per blog which could equal minutes over a week!
Lots of those books are on my TBR list. I'd be afraid I'd drop a Kindle if I had it. Or always be reading because so many great books are on it. :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Kelly - spam stinks - I'm glad there's not too much of it happening! The extra seconds really do add up - especially when you visit a lot of blogs!! :)

I wish I could be always reading - there's just not enough time!!!

I must say, I thought I wasn't going to be a Kindle girl. Then I was given one, and I haven't looked back! Being able to download the sample of each book has led to so many fantastic discoveries and purchases. It's also wonderful for travel. I still buy 'real' books and I'm sure I always will, but it's just so easy to use!

Jemi Fraser said...

Amie - Exactly!!! I really wasn't planning on buying one either - but it came as a gift and I love it!! Just like I love my 'real' books :)

Blogger has gotten so much better at blocking spam that I don't feel the need to add on the captcha letters. My husband has an iPad and loves it. He uses it at home to read and when he's traveling.

Coreen - awesome! What a fabulous gift! And as an added bonus - you don't have to store as many books! :) You're such a cool mom!

Thanks - staying warm is good! (-26 this morning!)

Helen - you're right - there's definitely been an improvement by Blogger in the spam area!! :)

I'd love to see an iPad - they're just out of my price range at the moment - but they look fantastic!!

Those are some awesome books - most I had seen (although not read) and I'm itching to start Beth Revis' book. Thanks for pulling them all into one place! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Susan - you're welcome! I've also since downloaded your book. Can't wait to get to it too! I've got to find more reading time!! :)

Oh my goodness. 138 comments and I'm 139. Of course some are you but I've only reached 60 at one sitting and that was during a blogfest.

Thank you for commenting on Mason's blog about my fantasy. I appreciate it. I'd love to get a kindle. It's funny, I'm an e-author but I don't have an e-reader. Maybe for mother's day. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Nancy - I have a lot of really sweet blog friends (like you!) who keep coming back :)

I got my Kindle as a birthday present this past year - I love it. I'll be crossing my fingers for you :)

I'm so glad that you're liking your Kindle, Jemi. I've thought about getting one myself. Your list of authors sound so great. Across the Universe is sitting on my nightstand now, and I'm excited to read it. Thanks for the update!

Jemi Fraser said...

Roxy - I've since added 2 or 3 more books to the list! It's so much fun to see all my friends published - and it's great to be able to support them :)

I'm loving my Nook! I got it for Christmas, but only started reading off it this week. Why? I wanted to read some paper books in my TBR pile first. Anyway, I love it! I'm already addicted to it!

So cool about blog buddy books! :)

Dawn - the ereaders are fun, aren't they? I keep flipping between paper books and Kindle books - can't seem to give up either one :)
