First Loves Blogfest

Alex J Cavanaugh is at it again! Another great blogfest. If you haven't met Alex yet (is that possible???), hop on over to his blog to say hi and grab the list for other participants!

First Movie Love
It has to be The Wizard of Oz. My older sister hated it - especially the flying monkeys! - but I fell in love from the first scene. The evil lady trying to hurt Toto, the caravan, the pig pen and the guys! Then, when the movie changed to colour, it was pure magic! The Scarecrow is, of course, my favourite character! Can't watch it without singing along! :)

First Band Love
(So glad you didn't say singer, Alex - that's a little embarrassing!) I listened to solo artists for the most part, and mostly pop music, but the first band I fell in love with was Queen. Bohemian Rhapsody was my favourite. I learned to play (most of) it on the piano. Pretty much wore out that album!

First Book Love
The first book I remember really getting to my heart was Little Women. I was pretty young. As soon as I finished it, I started reading again - hoping THIS time, Beth wouldn't die. When it happened the 2nd time, I was heart broken. Again.

First Person Love
I'm one of the lucky ones - I'm still married to the first guy I fell in love with. Crushes now? Different story. :) There was a guy named John (or Jim?) in grade 6 who had the best hair! Can't remember much about John himself, but I can still picture that hair! Sixth graders aren't known for the depths of their feelings after all!

How about you? Any first loves you'd like to share?

You're the third blog I've visited who married their first love. It's so sweet. And I love your first book ;)

1939 was a great year for movies. Asise from 'The Wizard of Oz', there was 'The Grapes of Wrath, 'Gone With the Wind', and 'Mr. Smith Goes to Washington'.

I watch 'Oz' about 2-3 times a year. lol Did you know that there were 309 mistakes made in that movie? Try Googling it and then watch the movie for the mistakes. You'll be surprised you never saw them! It's definite fun.

Beth - and we've been married for a long time - it's going to stick! :)

Kela - that's awesome! I haven't visited anyone yet! :)

Jeremy - I knew about the other incredible movies in that year, but I hadn't realized there were so many mistakes! I'm going to check that out!! :)

Lynda - it's such an amazing movie! I didn't see Willy until much later - it's so well done too :)

Melissa - ET is another awesome movie! I never did see Queen in concert - I'd have loved to have seen Mercury live.

Charmaine - that's the way it goes some days! I've done it too :)

Kyra - my sister too - she still hates it! Queen really does rock :P

Old Kitty - once upon a time I could - sadly I haven't touched a piano in decades!

CM - thanks! I do love them all - and Queen isn't the embarrassing one!

Natalie - it's such an amazing movie. The fact that so many kids love it still today so many years later is a testament to its power :)

GG - thank you - it was a fun post!

What a fun blogfest! And I'm a fellow lover of Queen, but never played in on the piano ... and now my son plays it on Guitar Hero! (He also plays piano...maybe I should hunt down some music for him).

I love Little Women. I actually saw the new movie first: Winona Rider played Joe. Then saw the original movie with June Allison and Elizabeth Taylor (great movie if you like old movies). Then read the book. I should have read the book first. It was brilliant. Great choice.

Mary said...

Aw! This is cute! I like that you married your first love. Mine was Adam Jeorgenson and we had an intense moment on the playground. Then my kindergarten teacher called my mother and told her I was kissing boys. *sigh* Young love.

LD Masterson said...

This is going to be an interesting blogfest to follow. The bands seem to reflect the blogger's age but the Wizard is popping up everywhere.

And everyone is saying their spouse was the first love.

I think The Wizard of Oz was the first movie I fell in love with. It came on TV once a year when I was a kid, and what a treat. It was hard to wait another year to see it again. And Queen, what an awesome rock band. One of the best ever, for sure!

Hey Jemi, congrats of being Lisa's RAOK peep. Well deserved. Cool First Love's Blogfest. My first book love was The Five Little Peppers and How They Grew by Margaret Sidney. It was my Christmas present when I was 8 years old and I still have the book.

Emily - I read it a lot as a kid - I'll have to pick it up again one of these days!

Allison - I never get sick of it! It's one of those I can always smile at!

Leslie - thanks so much! I got a thrill seeing that this morning!! :) I'd forgotten all about those 5 Peppers! I liked it as a kid too - but I've forgotten it all now!

That's beautiful that you married your first love! My first book love was Anne of Green Gables but I have fallen in love on a weekly basis with different books ever since.

Rosalind Adam said...

That's so precious. I wasn't as lucky with my first loves... but I've found a good 'un this time around. Queen were amazing but then I lived through the Beatles mania and nothing will ever quite compare.

Jemi Fraser said...

Vic - I reread it a lot as a kid - it (strangely) didn't do much for me as an adult a few years back.

DJ - Anne was my other choice! I read it shortly after Little Women and LOVED it! I reread it last summer and it still has the same magic :)

Rosalind - I'm just a little young for the Beatles - but I still love all their stuff! :)

Donna Shields said...

Love The Wizard of Oz.

Jemi Fraser said...

Donna - me too - just about the best movie ever!! :)

Arlee Bird said...

I remember when Wizard of Oz first started getting show on television. It was always the talk of all my schoolmates. My family wouldn't have a color television for near 10 years so I saw the movie many times on a small black and white. What a revelation to finally see it in color. I'd rank Wizard of Oz among my top 10 favorites.

Good list of first loves.

Who couldn't love "The Wizard of Oz"? I must have seen it 75 times at least. (On a side note, did you know that there were 309 errors in the film?)

As for Queen, I loved that band! It's sad Freddy had to die, but even worse the fact that Adam Lambert has to be the front man for them now.

Jemi Fraser said...

Jeremy - I hadn't realized there were that many errors - I'm going to have to watch for them next time I watch :)

TerryLynnJohnson said...

My first love for reading was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Jemi Fraser said...

Terry - I didn't read that one until I was much older - it's such an awesome book! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Shannon - me too! When I finally figured it out, I zoomed through that part! :)
