Shiny & New

We finally have spring on the way. Okay, we haven't had temps above freezing for several days and they say a bit more snow is possible. And the piles of snow from the snow blower are still on the lawns.

Don't know if we'll ever get to track and field season at school - the long jump pits are still filled with snow and/or ginormous puddles of melting snow *sigh*

And my hubby went ice fishing this weekend (still almost 2 feet of ice on the lake)...

BUT!

The sun is shining and I've even had birds singing me awake the last few mornings. My crocuses are shooting up too! All good signs.

Spring gives me more energy and I've started on a new wip. LOVE those first drafts and Shiny New Ideas. This draft is the 3rd book in the series I plan to self publish later on this year. Each book has its own main characters, but they all share the same small town setting.

How about you? Do Shiny New Ideas fight for your attention in the spring too?

Glad you're seeing signs of spring. Ours hit over two weeks ago. Freezing and then bam - seventies and eighties.

Alex - that sounds awesome! Can't wait! :)

We're having some freezing temps at night but the days are 50-60. Mowed the grass for the first time today. Our track and field season is half over though the poor kids ran in lots of cold weather.
All the outside work distracts me from writing.

I love spring too, and autumn (as is the case in New Zealand). I always feel more alive. And like you say, the birds always have so much so say!

All the best with your shiny new WIP :)

Susan - we're not quite ready for yard work yet. A few more weeks and we should be ready though!

Wendy - I agree - I love spring and fall best of all! The changes are incredible! :)

This past weekend was such a perfect example of what a Spring weekend is supposed to be like. I hope you enjoyed yours! :)

We used to have crocuses in Oregon! They were always a sign that winter was ending.

Jemi Fraser said...

DL - I did! It was a bit chilly, but still wonderful! :)

Diane - I love crocuses - they really are the first sign of spring! :)

You're even colder than I am and I thought our Spring was late. All our ice and snow is gone and I'm thinking I might be able to move my indoor plants out soon.

Pretty crocuses!

I appreciated that it got up to 50 this weekend. I was in my yard a lot yesterday and today cleaning up brush. So too tired to write.

Greetings human, Jemi,

I tried to leave a comment an hour ago. And typical, just as I went to 'pawblish' my comment, the internet connection stopped.

I try again. Ah some hints of spring. A renewal of your spirit. This is very good, my human friend. My human has never gone fishing for "ice" :)

Pawsitive wishes, eh,

Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet superstar!

Ms H - I love crocuses! It'll be quite a while before we'll be doing any planting outside! :)

Natalie - those outdoor days really wipe me out too! But it's nice to have the yard looking like a yard again!

Gary & Penny - my hubby does like to fish for ice - they catch it about as often as they do fish! :)

You have a great positive attitude! I hope the snow melts soon. No snow here- but it is lingering in the cool area. Love to see the signs of spring!
Your WIP sounds so interesting. I like the idea of different characters in the same town.

Jemi Fraser said...

Jess - I'm glad it sounds interesting. I've been having a lot of fun creating the town and it's people! Can't wait to send it out to the world :)

I want to grow crocuses. My rose bushes are going crazy since we've almost hit 90 degrees this week in LA. I do feel re-energized when the flowers bloom.

While spring is here to stay, it did drop into the 20s last night, and we had some flurries spitting down the day before. Ah, wild weather. Grats on the WiP, I'm still sort of in-between.

Yay for spring!

We're having spring here, too, although the nights have been a bit nippy still.

I'm like you--the more daylight, the happier I am!

I'm seeing signs of spring too and I was worried everything would be dead with the flooding we got from Hurricane Sandy.
I'm starting something new now too--spring is a good time for that. :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Leslie - I love the crocuses and not only because they're the first spring flowers!

Old Kitty - thanks! I felt in need of a spring time makeover! :)

Jeff - in between isn't a bad place to be! This winter and sping have been more than a little bizarre this year!

Elizabeth - exactly! If I have sunshine I feel I can do anything!

Jennifer - spring is a great time for it! I'm glad you're seeing spring too - Sandy was so incredibly intense!

I'm trying to fight back all those shiny new ideas right now, as I concentrate on my current work in progress!

It will be great to see your book coming out, Jemi. Spring does tend to refresh you.

Spring is sprouting here! No more snow and ice for us.S So far, the beauty and inspiration hasn't crept into my writing.

A new look? I like it!

The weekend was awesome, but this week we're supposed to get more rain her in MO and then some lower temps later.

We still have iffy temps but mostly warm. Slow spring this year and went from snow the beginning of the month--my daffodils rebelled--to everything blooming now.

I remember cold springs with two feet of ice still on the lakes in Wisconsin. I'm glad we live further south.

Yay on the new story!

We haven't had much Spring weather where I live yet. In fact, just three days ago we had a little snow. I can't wait for the day when I can sit outside under a tree with my laptop and write. That fresh air releases my creativity. Until then... well, I'm still writing in my dim little writing cave!

Belle Wong said...

I've been really missing the crocuses and the daffodils - at our old house, every year they would pop up so consistently, signalling that spring was around the corner, even when the weather tried to prove otherwise. I should really see about getting a pot of them for the coffee table in our condo!

Jemi Fraser said...

Beth - good luck! Battling back those SNIs takes dedication & resolve! :)

Maria - thanks! I'm excited about getting closer to pubbing! :)

Theresa - it will! All things to their own seasons!

Teresa - thanks! I want it to match up with the website I'm creating too :)

Sia - thanks! I love my 4 seasons, so I don't usually complain, but it's been a long time waiting for spring!

Clara - we're the same! I won't be able to write outside for weeks yet!

Belle - you should! Or pansies! I love pansies too - such happy flowers! :)

I've been detached this past year. Grief and life in general have a way of stifling creativity. With Spring slowly unfolding, I feel like I'm awakening and unfurling my prose fingers for the first time in a long while. (Hugs) Indigo

Jemi Fraser said...

Indigo - life can stifle that creativity with it's busy-ness and pace. Add in grief and it's hard to find the joy in the creative outlet again. I hope spring continues to bring you the joys and the creativity again!

First drafts of a new novel are the best! Spring is in the air here too, finally. Love those crocuses!

Jemi Fraser said...

Yvonne - thanks! They always make me smile ... both the crocuses and the first drafts! :)

Beautiful flowers.

I just finished planting something and now you've brought up the parallel that I'm starting a new project.

Thanks Medeia :) New projects are great in the spring!

Happy reading and writing! from Laura Marcella @ Wavy Lines

Laura - yay for lots of new ideas! Love having them all flitting around my head!

Your crocuses are lovely. I have tulips - and freezing temperatures (again!). But spring certainly does get the creative juices flowing. Best of luck with your WIP.

Jemi Fraser said...

Linda - thanks! My tulips aren't up yet -soon I hope! :)
