The Final Chapter for From the Write Angle

If you haven't heard yet, my friends and I over at From the Write Angle are lowering the curtain over at our blog. It was a tough decision, but it's time. We've all gotten busy, busy, busy, and we're not able to commit to the time needed to keep the blog strong. If you haven't read the final post, it's a good one, and in the comments many of our contributors are doing updates about then/now.

From the Write Angle started in 2011. In some ways, it seems eons ago, in others, only a heartbeat or two.

It's natural to look back and to look ahead during a time like this. I haven't sent out a single query or published a single book in that time. I know to some that would seem inconceivable, but it's true. So, what have I been doing? Working on my craft. I'm a hands-on learner, so I've been writing and trying and learning. And improving.

While I may not have my stories out in the real world yet, I'm SO much closer to having a product I'll be proud to share.

My buddies over at From the Write Angle are a large part of that. So many talented writers who are so willing to share and help out others! I've already bought and read at least a dozen books by my fellow FTWAers and I'm looking forward to many more.

It's been a very good ride at FTWA, and I'll miss the regular contact with my colleagues and my new blogger buddies, but I know we'll all keep in touch.

Have you been part of a group blog? It's such a great way to grow and learn and share!

Sorry to hear it, but you will still be Just Jemi, yes? :)
Blogosphere has changed over the years, many have gone, many have come, the days aren't as strong as the good old ones were here.

I'm sorry! That always sucks to lose something you started and had so much passion for. I worry about the IWSG, even as it continues to grow.

I've had to let go of blogs before for this very reason. It just gets to be too draining after a while, not to mention time-consuming! Sounds like all those years you poured into From the Write Angle were well worth it, though. Best of luck with your writing journey!

People do get busy and cut back or stop blogging, so don't feel bad about it. And I haven't queried or published a book yet either. In fact, I only have one finished manuscript in my drawer that I don't think is good enough to send out.

Jemi, we have to enjoy things while we can as all good things must come to an end. Writers4Writers met a similar fate. People just got too busy with other things.

I'm sorry to hear this, but I definitely get it! Wow...since 2011. Time has flown!

Sometimes life gets in the way OR it's just time to move on. My writing has improved 1000% since I started blogging in 2009.

I am part of a group blog and I can't imagine it ending though I understand the busy part. We all have to prioritize.

Aww, that was such a great blog. I always enjoyed the topics covered. But I definitely understand how life gets busy! I'll hop over and read the final post.

Sorry, Jemi. Could be a good idea in the long run, though.

Jemi Fraser said...

Lee - yes - and it's going out when we're still going strong, so that's good!

Jess - it's been a great blog - and the friendships are wonderful!

Kelly - I think it is!

It was quite the surprise to see that news--I will miss the site, lots of good stuff from many good people.

Hey Jemi,

Sorry to read about the closing of "From the Write Angle". There's always your own blog right here to have a read of.

Rather surprisingly, I actually was part of a blog group way back when. It was called a "blog library" and we met up in an office and helped each other with our first ever posts. I was featured on BBC radio discussing the blog library which was named "Mind Bloggling" :)

Take it easy, eh!

Gary :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Jeff - I agree! It was an amazing team of wonderful people!

Gary - Mind Boggling sounds about perfect!! I'm usually in that state :)

I noticed the final post. These things all seem to have their own lifespan, and it's good to know when it feels over. Good for you for continuing to work so diligently on your craft!

How sad you had to close it down.

I was part of the A to Z Blog for one year and of course I'm part of the Insecure Writer's Support Group site. Hopefully those two keep going.

Jemi Fraser said...

Beth - thanks! It's been a lot of fun with the blog :)

Diane - it is, but better to let it go than watch it dwindle away. I hope they do as well!

I'm sorry to hear this. Will miss the learning posts there.

You're savvy to know how to partition your time. It's sad to see FTWA go, it was a good 'un. Happy writing!!!

Carol Kilgore said...

Boy, do I understand getting too busy to keep up a blog. I'm glad you're still here, even though the other blog is closing. The door is closing, but a new window is opening for you, too.

Crystal Collier said...

It's always hard when something ends. I'm part of a blogging group right now that may or may not disband with the new year, and it is a rather sad (and relieving) prospect. The only thing constant is change, eh?

Nas said...

So sorry, Jemi. But you will still be here?

Jemi Fraser said...

RBH - me too!

Leslie - it was! I'll miss it too :)

Carol - I hope so!

Crystal - exactly! Change is good, but still tough at times!

Olivia - I will be here! :)

Michelle Wallace said...

Sorry to read about the closing of FTWA, Jemi.
But at least we can still get you here at your blog.

One door closes - another one opens. That's how it goes.

The older we get the more we realize our time is limited. I'm sorry that your group blog is ending, but it will give you more time to focus on your writing. (silver lining)

Hugs!!!!

Jemi Fraser said...

Michelle - thanks!! You're so right!

Sharon - and that is a huge silver lining!! :)
