Last time I posted my lies & truths for the Creative Liar challenge sent my way by Mari Juniper. Time to 'fess up! So, here are my 4 spooky lies with my 2 spooky truths mixed in.
(I found the awesome Steampunk Ghostbusters at Kilgore Laboratories).
1. My school is haunted. When I'm in at work on the weekend - I often hear footsteps coming down the hall. At first I thought it was the boiler. Nope. I've called out assuming it was another teacher. Nope. Footsteps stop. And nothing. True. I've heared the footsteps multiple times - but there's never anyone there. Definitely spooky. I don't go in to the school at nights alone anymore :)
2. I once lived in a haunted house. We only saw her a few times - when we came home late at night. We leave the stove light on when we're out, so we saw her (wearing an old-fashioned bonnet) silhouetted in the kitchen window and on the stairs. Not true - but true for a friend's house. I haven't seen the phenomenon myself, but 4 very down-to-earth people have and they believe it completely.
3. I had a premonition once. I dreamt my school bus would be in an accident outside of Burger King and I would lose my leg. Called my friend and told her about it. She laughed and made me feel ridiculous. So I got on the bus. We had an accident. Outside of Burger King. But I only twisted my ankle in the fall. Thankfully no one was really hurt. Not true - but true for a friend. I was the one she called on the morning of the accident. When her bus didn't show up at school, I was in a total panic until they arrived.
4. We had a dog growing up who barked at the chimney, but only during thunderstorms. We thought it was odd, but nothing spooky. Until some of the bricks fell off during one really bad storm. During the repair process, human bones were found. The police never did figure it out, and the cold case is still on file here. Not true - totally made up :)
5. A year after my dad died, my mom & sister & I went to scatter his ashes. On the way up to the spot, 6 of his favourite songs played on the radio. Including the one he asked me to sing for him shortly before he died. These are not popular songs that you normally hear on the radio and they are not all the same style (country, easy listening, rock, jazz). True - are you happy Jan? :)
6. My mom grew up next to some woods in Scotland. Gypsies visited on a regular basis. Some of the neighbours weren't always kind to the gypsies. One neighbour tried to have his way with one of the young women and found himself the victim of the evil eye. In the next few months he lost his job, broke his arm and his wife died. Not true. The Gypsies did stay in the woods near her home, but there weren't any evil eye stories :)
So there you have it - my spooky lies and truths :) Thanks for playing along!
It's always so much fun learning new things about your. You're awesome.

Thoughts in Progress
Aw, I didn't get any of them right. But oh wow, that tidbit about your school: definitely spooky!
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't go in that school alone at night either.
ReplyDeleteAnd I did grow up in a haunted house. Some weird noises and stuff...
The haunted house part is cool! Scary, but cool!
ReplyDeleteThanks Mason! It was fun to write :)
ReplyDeleteSandy - yeah - we have a few people who won't go in alone at all :) But in the daytime, I don't find it too bad.
ReplyDeleteDiane - I had another friend growing up who believed her house was haunted. I heard some bizarre noises, but I never saw anything. She did :) Wild stuff!
ReplyDeleteStephanie - I agree - cool but definitely scary!
ReplyDeleteI guessed one wright and one wrong! What a wonderful story about the songs on the radio :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Aubrie - it really was amazing. We got to the point where we waited super quietly to see what the next song was. It was wild!
ReplyDeleteMan, I just had to read about true haunted places right at bedtime. A haunted school! Yipes!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Mason- you ARE awesome! And I second Diane's statement-- no going in that school at night!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome truth about your dad. Just when you need something uplifting to happen, too.
Thanks for sharing!
Michele
Southern City Mysteries
Sorry Lola! If it's any consolation - I've never seen anything. Heard things - sure, but I haven't seen a single thing :)
ReplyDeleteMichele - awwww - thanks :)
ReplyDeleteIt was an incredible experience that day - I've never been through anything quite like it before or since.
I was kind of hoping the gypsy story was true! But I do like that the story of your dad is true. Almost magical.
ReplyDeleteLynn - Yeah - you'd think there would have been at least one evil eye threat :)
ReplyDeleteIt was magical - a very wild day.
I wanted 6 to be a lie and 5 to be true, so I'm happy. Better your school is haunted than your house!
ReplyDeleteTheresa - I'm glad! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I totally agree - the school is much better than the house - MUCH better!
Oh my gosh, I love your truth! Makes me believe in angels...
ReplyDeleteThanks LiLa - me too! :)
ReplyDeleteQue the X-files music!! :)
ReplyDeleteDL - love that show - love that song! I'm in ;)
ReplyDeletewow! that was fascinating and entertaining and such a nice peek into Jemi! hehe
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing, love!
These were so fun, Jemi!! :-)
ReplyDeleteOh, I love haunted stories. I'm sorry I missed the previous post. I would totally avoid that school at night. Eeeks.
ReplyDeleteI have a ghost story (true). I spent the night in a friend's guest room and she'd told me her house was haunted. In the middle of the night I awoke with a start and saw a strange light hanging in front of me. I told myself it couldn't be there and went back to sleep. Awhile later I awoke with a start again. This time I saw a huge, hulking man by the bed. But he was standing where the bed was pushed against the wall, and I knew he couldn't be real. I pulled the covers over my head and went to sleep. When I got up, groggy, I decided I had seen things by power of suggestion. So I told my friend I hadn't seen anything but wondered what others had reported. Well, she said, her son had seen a bright light and big Indian in the room I was in. Yikes. Then I told her the truth of what I'd seen.
Those were great Jemi! I was away and missed the last post, so I didn't get long to ponder before jumping to the correct answer (I'm a cheater-for shame!).
ReplyDeleteThat's so amazing about your dad's songs playing on the radio. Gives you hope.
Aww, at least the haunted school one was was true. That was one of my favourites.
ReplyDeleteAlthough I didn't get any right, they were all too good. :)
Tahereh - thanks my dear! It was sure fun to write :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Shannon - glad you enjoyed them :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Tricia! :)
ReplyDeleteWow - that's an amazing story! I can't believe you managed to sleep at all - I'm pretty sure I would have been a mess!
Lorel - thanks!
ReplyDeleteIt does give me hope - it was spooky but very nice :)
Thanks Lindsay! I never get these things right on other blogs! I glad you enjoyed playing along :)
ReplyDeleteWow as you can see I'm a terrible guesser but I think it's fantastic and super special that #5 was true. It's the little things that you will always remember and even after he passed he still showed that he was there, that was the sweetest thing ever!
ReplyDeleteWhaaahahaha! I was right on both! Man I'm an insufferable winner! Oh well. I love the story about your dad so much. I hope it makes it into a book of yours one day. And just so you don't feel TOOOO exposed - I'm a psychotherapist and I'm very very good at sussing out the authentic. Yippppppeee.
ReplyDeleteThis is a fun way to learn about you. Very clever!
ReplyDeleteOnly got the one about your dad right. Think Jan has a good point about a book spot.
I don't blame you for not going to your school alone/at night! I had a run-in with a ghost once and it makes chill bumps on my arm right now just thinking about it.
ReplyDelete#5 -- that's pretty amazing!!!!
ReplyDeleteYour school is haunted? Creepy.
ReplyDeleteI would be terrified in that school at night. I am SO chicken!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that the chimney one isn't true. That one almost gave me nightmares!
Oh my goodness, I wouldn't have guessed that. Interesting!
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!
I really enjoyed reading this and learning more about your spooky encounters.
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, no way would I go to the school at night. Probably not by myself during the day, either.
Love the totally made up ones.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jen - we thought it was pretty incredible as it was happening - and the wonder has never lessened :)
ReplyDeleteJan - I laughed when I saw your answers on the original post - you are GOOD! And, yes, knowing that about you makes me feel a little better! :)
ReplyDeleteI actually never thought of including that story in the book (there's more to it as well). Good idea!
Thanks Maribeth - I'm glad you and Jan mentioned it - I actually hadn't thought of it before :)
ReplyDeleteElizabeth - wow - a real encounter! That would be wild. The footsteps (which I heard again tonight when I left around 6pm) are spooky enough!
ReplyDeleteAgnes - yes I think it's pretty amazing -- and I didn't tell all of the story :)
ReplyDeleteAlex - yup! Not too many people talk about it - but not too many of us go in alone on the weekends anymore either. :)
ReplyDeleteTalli - lol :) I'm glad it sounded relatively realistic - I wasn't quite sure on that one!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jennifer - I had fun writing them up!
ReplyDeleteHope your weekend is great too! :)
Thanks Shannon! I do go in alone in the daytime all the time on weekends. It's not too bad. I was alone in the place when I left tonight around 6. I did hear them again - thought the night caretaker was in - but she wasn't there yet. Definitely got a chill.
ReplyDeleteC Lee - thanks! Glad you had some fun reading them :)
ReplyDeleteWhat fun stories.
ReplyDeleteI am just sad I didn't get to your blog in time to guess.
You are scary good at making up intricate lies. They all sounded like a complete truth to me. Hope I never get picked to be on a jury.
ReplyDeleteAl - thanks! That's okay - it's really hard to keep up with every post by everyone! No worries :)
ReplyDeleteSusan - yay - thanks!!
ReplyDeleteI was always (and still am) the total rule follower in the real world. So it's fun to be a good liar!
Whoa, those really are spooky! And I'm glad that chimney one isn't true, yikes! Obviously, I scare easy, haha.
ReplyDeleteLaura - thanks! I'm glad it's not true as well. And I'm a complete and total wimp when it comes to scary stuff! :)
ReplyDeleteI love learning more about you! I did get my guess wrong, though.
ReplyDelete:)
Thanks Lydia - I never, ever get these things right on other people's blogs :)
ReplyDeleteThese are great stories, Jemi. True or otherwise! You'll have to use them as fodder for books someday.
ReplyDeleteAnd oddly, the one you made up--really did happen often to my Mom when she a teenager. The dog would also bark at a certain floorboard where she swore see'd see a glowing something occasionally as well. Weird dog. Gullible Mom. :o)
Have a great weekend (though Victoria Day is over for CAN). :o(
Like I say, Jemi, you really aught to write horror stories, you're good! ;) Or was it paranormal? :D
ReplyDeleteThat's fun! Thanks for this 'spooky' posting :)
ReplyDeleteJackee - thanks! Your story is so bizarre! Your poor mom must have been freaked out by that dog.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your weekend - hope it is a good as ours was!
Elizabeth - thanks - I have read a few paranormal books that I've really enjoyed - so I guess you never know! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Michelle! I'm glad you enjoyed them :)
ReplyDeleteThat was fun reading which were true and which were not!
ReplyDeleteHelen
Straight From Hel
Thanks Helen - I'm glad they were fun to read! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun post! Totally enjoyed it! And they all seemed feasible to me! Thanks for dropping by my blog and following. Delighted to follow in return! Maybe hanging out with all you author types will inspire me to write something besides a blog some day. :)
ReplyDeleteBeth - thanks so much! You never know - we tend to be a pretty addictive bunch :) And blog writing is the first step on that slippery slope!
ReplyDeleteThat's an amazing story about the six songs on the radio. Why not? I believe it could be true. I try not to put too much stock into interpreting songs from the radio as a sign. But six songs? Makes you wonder.
ReplyDeleteStephen Tremp
Stephen - exactly! We laughed when the first one came on. "Wow - isn't that amazing" kind of stuff. Then the next, and the next... It was wild. And there was another aspect to the trip I didn't mention that was just as spooky!
ReplyDeleteHaha very entertaining post..very fun to read, even though some are made up!
ReplyDeleteregards
val
Thanks Val - glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for dropping by :)
ReplyDeleteNumber 1 sounded like the truth to me, even before I read the explanation in red. But #5 I wouldn't have guessed. It's too eerie.
ReplyDeleteYour life is only 1000 times more interesting than mine :) The school thing was pretty scary!!!
ReplyDeleteMedeia - yeah - it was really eerie - in a nice kind of way :)
ReplyDeleteThe school doesn't bother me much - as long as it's daytime :)
Saumya - lol :) thanks, but it's really pretty ordinary. Fun, but ordinary :)
ReplyDeleteI thought number 1 - even though I'm too late to play.
ReplyDeleteThis was fun to read anyway.
And here's one == I was writing this comment and it wouldn't post, so I went back to my blog cuz the name links sometimes work better than the URL's. You were writing on my blog at the exact moment I was trying to post. I love when stuff like that happens.
Thanks Anne - glad you enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteThat's wild -- Serendipity indeed. I love those wild and wonderful coincidences :)
Cate - lol - me too. I've got an old ms about a girl working cold cases. I wrote it eons before I considered attempting to write for publication. It was fun!
ReplyDeleteJemi, I love how you included a grain of truth with most of your lies. All of the stories were very believable. Our previous next door neighbors swore that they had a ghost - a woman, who would walk up their stairs and pause on the landing to look out the window at our house. I never saw her, but when I took care of their cats while they were on vacation, I was careful to only go over in the daytime! :)
ReplyDeleteLayinda - love it - just like my school. Great place...in the daytime :)
ReplyDeleteThere are a lot of people who have experiences in this area - it's always fascinating!
It's wonderful to learn more about you, Jemi. Thanks for sharing! [And, omg, that school thing freaks me out. Seriously.]
ReplyDeleteLove how real the not-true ones sound, Jemi. And really really love no. 5!
ReplyDeleteKimberly - thanks :)
ReplyDeleteYeah - it is a bit freaky - I heard them again on Friday night (not late - only around 6) but I didn't hear them when I was in for hours on Sunday. Weird.
Thanks Belle - glad I'm a decent liar!
ReplyDeleteIt was definitely a weird day!
Wow. I'm really glad that dad one was true! I guessed that one ;o) That's so cool actually.
ReplyDeleteSorry about the spooky school though, I bet it's fun during Halloween ;o)
Erica - I'm glad #5 is true too - it was a bizarre day. :)
ReplyDeleteNot too many people know/believe/agree that the school is haunted. Most of the teachers who go in on the weekend are way too practical - and say, 'yeah it sounds like footsteps, but it couldn't be, could it?'
I'm probably there alone the most, and I'm convinced they are footsteps. :)
I got chills reading the story about scattering the father's ashes. We had something very similar happen during the hour my mom died. *rubs away the goosebumps*
ReplyDeleteSarah - it was an amazing day. I bet yours was the same. And I still get chills whenever I hear one of the songs.
ReplyDelete
