A Scary Good Book!

Great news!! Anita Laydon Miller is releasing a new ebook TODAY! It's a middle grade mystery called A SCARY GOOD BOOK. I can't wait for this one. I loved her 1st book, EARTHLING HERO - and so did my students when I read it aloud to them last year.

Here's what Anita has to say about her new book...

Twelve-year-old Hannah Stone tells everyone she’s “okay,” but that’s a total lie. Two years ago her dad was killed by a hit-and-run driver. The detective in charge of the case never found the driver, but he somehow managed to get Hannah’s mom to fall in love with him. The jerk. And speaking of love, Hannah’s developed a major crush on Ollie Ortega—he’s her best friend and the only one she can talk to—a crush on Ollie is so not a good idea.

Also not a good idea? Searching for a missing person with no help from the police. But that’s exactly what Hannah does when she finds messages in library books—underlined words that point her in the direction of someone who needs her.

And, suddenly, Hannah’s even further from okay. She breaks into a library, gets caught in a kidnapper’s web, and is stalked by her dad’s killer, all in an effort to save a life…but can she save herself, too?

Doesn't it sound great? Can't wait. Here's the link for this terrific kids' ebook - it's only 99 cents!!

Thank you so much for spreading the word about this new book! I'm very proud of it...feels like I gave birth except without all the stretch marks (although, come to think of it, I did do a lot of stress eating, so who knows?).

And I keep thinking of you while writing EARTHLING HERO 2...I want you to enjoy that one, too.

The book sound very intriguing, and I agree with Alex, an absolutely brilliant title!

OLD KITTY: I read somewhere that you don't have an ereader. You can still read ebooks. Visit the Ways to Read Ebooks at anitalaydonmiller.com for options. There are so many great free and inexpensive ebooks out there, I'd hate for you to lose out.

ABOUT THE TITLE: My "team" thought the title is an accurate description of the book and is good for search optimization purposes, too. I included a sentence about a scary good book inside the book, too, just to tie everything together nicely. The big trouble was deciding whether I should keep the article "A" or not...the team was split in half and I ultimately added because my blog friend Jonathon really, really wanted it there.

Anita - I can't wait to read both this one and the 2nd part to Earthling Hero - awesome :)

And we do tend to stress eat throughout all the stages of this process, don't we!! :)

ABOUT THE COVER: My husband and I created it using a free program. It's not as difficult as people think. The hard part is thinking of the concept. We had two and did rough drafts of both. Best of all: the process was fun!

I like the title with the "A"!
Congrats to Anita!

Jemi Fraser said...

Anita - that's awesome! I've never tried making covers - but it sounds like fun. I'll have to start dabbling :)

Anita is really breaking some ground here with her middlegrade e-books!

Jemi Fraser said...

Shelley - she really is doing a great job! After I read Earthling Hero to my students, several of them went home and downloaded it so they could read it again! :)

Thanks for sharing, Jemi. I downloaded my copy.

It does sound great! I've had to cut back on my book buying in this awful economy, and if it's more than 4.99 (3.99 preferable) for Kindle, I don't do it. But .99--that sounds like a giveaway. I LOVE children's literature (and YA), so I'm clicking on the link, and hope many, many others will too.

Ann - I'm the same. I just can't afford the more expensive books very often. I'd love to buy them all, but it's just not realistic.

Anita's first book was $0.99 too - and it was fantastic!

Jemi: I'm in chapter two, and it's a page turner. I told her I'll review it for her when I'm finished. She's an excellent writer!

Ann - that's awesome! I've got a busy couple of days and don't know if I'll get to it before the weekend. I'm looking forward to it. Anita's a sweetie and a terrific writer!

ALL: Thank you so much for your kind words and purchases! I do think middle grade kids will buy even more ebooks in the new year. And I hope the kids will look for ones that are inexpensive and of high quality (fresh story, fun plot, friend-like characters).

Jemi Fraser said...

Anita - I agree. Most of the students I teach don't have e-readers. But many of them have computers or iPod touches. I read Earthling Hero to them off my iPod Touch and they thought it was pretty cool :)
