Okay - maybe not that brave! :) One thing it did tell me is that my timing is not the best. When I first decided to blog & tweet, I checked out the name Jemi Fraser - just to make sure it didn't bring up a lot of sites not connected to my name. Lucky me, nothing at all came up. Cue the happy dance.
A couple of weeks later, 2 celebrities (Demi Lovato & Joe Jonas) started dating. In the spirit of Brangelina, these two were quickly dubbed Jemi. Apparently the two are no longer a couple, but the name persists. I've had many teeny-boppers add me as a friend on twitter without realizing I have nothing to do with That Jemi. I used to send a nice tweet explaining I wasn't That Jemi, now I mostly just block them. (Hope I'm not traumatizing anyone!)
This trend is apparently alive and well according to my stats. A LOT of people search Jemi, land on my site for under 5 seconds and leave again. *sigh* The most popular search term for people finding my blog is Jemi, not Jemi Fraser. *bigger sigh* By mentioning their names & posting the photo below, I bet I'm going drive a few young celebrity hunters crazy!
Maybe I should have gone with the longer form of the name ... Jemima. Yeah. I didn't think so either.
So, anyone else out there driving teeny-boppers looking for idols crazy?

Hey - any publicity is GOOD publicity.
Hehehehehe.
You could end up getting some new YA readers from the search word Jemi! At least it's the right age group!
My biggest search word for me now is crying. I wrote one post about what books and movies make me cry. ONE! I'm usually a happy blog!
That would be a little weird and talk about a strange coincidence!
Madmother - I guess it is ... but I feel like a meanie turning away those poor kids! :)
Kelly - that's hilarious - you are a happy blogger! It's fun to see what these seraches show :)
Holly - it really was a bizarre coincidence - really bad timing on my part, but that's life :)
This is so odd! I understand, though ... my maiden name was Katie Hudson, and I got the Kate Hudson thing all the time. I actually get pretty worried sometimes that someone (real or not) who shares my married name will become famous/infamous and make life miserable for me (imagine all the people out there innocently named Harry Potter, Edward Cullen, etc whose lives were impacted by the popularity of those characters. Or anyone whose name is Rebecca Black, yikes!)
Katie - it really was odd - and you're right - it's got to be really strange for people like that. In my town, there are apparently 2 Steven Kings :)
When I went to Nashville 6 weeks ago at the concert I went to a couple from Ireland was mentioned by the star who said the man had something to ask the girl. He proposed, it went all over various sites it was Yvonne Lewis who got engaged.......I am a widow without a man. Just goes to show how things get mixed up.
Yvonne.
Yvonne - I remember that story - so funny! It really is amazing how names are linked and how people make those connections ... even when they're really not there! :)
Hey if thousands of those teenagers drop in maybe a few will stay.
Love the picture of the brave cat.
"Jemima"? Such a pretty name, LOVE IT!!!!
Jemima is a pretty name. I agree with Agnes.
Susan - you never know - but most of them take right off again. Maybe I should leave a photo of the 2 celebs reading at the top of the blog! :)
Agnes - thanks! It's a family name :)
Happy W - thanks! We always make Aunt Jemima jokes around here :)
You're really a Jemima? Wow! I decided today that I wanted to change the profile name for my facebook page. No can do. Too bad we don't have the ability to see 6 months or a year down the road when we are deciding all these bits and pieces of our online lives!
The most frequent search term that sends people to my blog is "braces" because I once posted a comical picture of Lisa Simpson wearing braces.
I think your Jemi story definitely wins! And like other commenters have said, at least it's the right age demo, eh?
Beth - Jemima is a real family name that I decided on for my pen name - I just like Jemi better.
I'm not quite ready to share the whole identity with the world yet. I have romance in all I write and the school board I work for may not be happy if I ever publish under my own name :)
Sarah - so true - at least they're the right age! :)
Love the braces story! It's funny what sticks :)
That's pretty damn funny! And I love the timing. Such a coincidence.
Mary - it really was bizarre timing! If it had been 2 weeks earlier, I'd have a totally different pen name :)
I love the name Jemi. And why not let the stalkers follow you on Twitter? It just makes you look important to have all those followers! You could even play into it and write stuff that makes you sound like a celebrity. Like Ah those paparazzi, gotta love 'em.
:-)
Karen - that's so funny! I guess I could - but I feel like I'm leading them on! I get invites to go see Jemi pictures & vote for favourite Jemi pics & sites &...
They're cute :)
I don't think any name is purely unique. There's always SOME problem or association. I reckon it's not all bad. Some people who find your site by accident might just stay unexpectedly-- which is a good thing.
Lynda - there probably are no unique names. I thought I was going to be okay - hadn't seen anything like mine ... but then... :)
Maybe some people have popped by and stopped to stay - you never know! :)
Haha! That's kind of funny but at the same time crummy
Oh, you lost your identity to a celebrity merger!
Hilarious, but as others have said, you might get some teenage fans - got to be good for a YA writer!
Bekah - I think you've summed it up perfectly! :)
SF - you'd think! - but none of them seem to stay on the site long enough to find out about my writing! They're off when they don't see any photos of their celebs :)
I'm pretty sure I'm not attracting any teeny-boppers, but I've had people land on my blog from pretty weird searches.
Lee
Tossing It Out
Twitter hashtag: #atozchallenge
Lee - you never know! Especially with the challenge, you're likely to find all kinds of people dropping by your place! :)
I signed up for Google Alerts for my name (being the narcissist I apparently am for doing that), and I was shocked to get my first alert - over a dozen hits. Well, who would have thunk that there is a very successful Associated Press writer with my very name, Kelly M. Olsen. No longer on Google Alerts, I'm seriously considering using a pen name.
Kelly - that stinks! All that excitement getting the alerts and then ... boom. *sigh* That IS the way it goes. A pen name might be a good idea with that kind of connection
Oh yeah, this post is going to bring them in droves!
But, I'm with Kelly...it's totally the YA audience you want. ;) You're a marketing GENIUS!
Um, with a name like Lola and the random weird stuff I post about, we won't mention some of the searches that have brought people to my blog. o_0
And if I google Lola Sharp, I'm in the top spots, EXCEPT that's not my FB page (about 4 hits down)...I don't have a FB, because whoever she is, she snagged it before I could. *pouts* (I wonder if she ever gets friended by people thinking they're friending me?)
Happy weekend, Jemi. And I love the name Jemi.
Love,
Lola
Thanks Lola! :)
I'm not sure I even want to imagine some of the searches that lead to your blog.
That stinks that your name isn't available on FB - I haven't signed up for a FB account yet, so I don't have a clue if mine is available or not. The way things are going - most likely not!
Enjoy your weekend too Lola! :)
LOL! Joe Jonas! LOL! LOL!
I'm sorry, but that is just too cute. :) I wish I had a cool name like yours! Seriously!!
Amy
Hahaha. No teeny boppers over my way. Just a bunch of folks looking for foghorn leghorn. Go figure.
Loved this post, that rebel, Olivia
Amy - I know! I think it's funny too. I don't get as many Twitter followers looking for that Jemi these days, but apparently there are still lots of them searching for them online :)
Olivia - Foghorn Leghorn??? That's hysterical! I'm going to expect a clip art pic of him next time I visit! :)
Hey! At least you're already attracting your target audience!! Look on the bright side. :D And Jemi is a beautiful name. I'm now getting all kinds of people searching for Vampire Diaries stuff. *shrugs* they figure it out quick enough when they stop by!
Isn't it bizarre how combination names for couple's have really become the norm? Branjolina, Bennifer...
I had never heard of the Jemi reference (and I have tween/teen girls) but maybe morphing the names is more of a media thing.
Lisa - I bet you get all kinds of paranormal search words in your page views :)
And thank you!
welcome to the wonderful world of stats. I wouldn't get too hung up on it. Many of my readers find me by searching for "dog turds". True story.
Suzie - the combining of names lately has been nuts!
I'm glad your girls haven't used the Jemi reference - maybe it's falling out of vogue :)
Like others,I think this may just be helpful to you in the future! Maybe if my name was 'Lisa' instead of 'Lynn Simpson' I may have a touch of your celebrity 'problem';)
Terry - so funny! I actually did laugh out loud on that one!! :) Who in the world searches dog turds?????
Lynn - so funny! I'm sure the Lisa Simpson hits would be huge!!! :)
That's funny...and frustrating, but with the whims of celebrity, perhaps it will blow away in the wind soon enough.
The reason I'm Tricia on my blog is because Patricia/Pat O'Brien is a name with all kinds of other connections--famous bars and pubs,a dead actor, a TV personality, frat boys, even other writers. It's strange to have a fractured identity.
Too funny! Great way to get teens to your sight though! :)
It is pretty much true that all PR is good PR, so Jemi may be a help to you in reaching new people.
Tricia - that's wild - so many different people - I know a Pat O'Brien here in my town too :)
You're right - it's an odd feeling!
Laura - it is funny. The big problem is they don't stay - just pop away :)
LOL Hey, any traffic is good traffic, right? Maybe not. :)
Terra - I guess so - it's just so funny to see how the people pop in and pop right back out when I'm not who they want!
Susan - Yup - I'm really not sure if it's a good thing or not! :)
Oh that is funny! I'm sure you don't think so (sorry) but you are at least trying to have fun with it! ;) but stats are the strangest thing. I posted on a trip to Vegas last fall, and I get hits on that all the time. And I posted some fan art from the Hunger Games almost a year ago, and that still gets tons of traffic, too.
Margo - I actually do think it's pretty funny! :) My timing is generally a little off in most things, so this isn't a surprise either!
It's definitely interesting to see what the top search terms are - not ususally what we expect!
Not me. Not many people search for Helen Ginger (unless maybe they're looking for the old Gilligan's Island show) or Straight From Hel, although...that might draw in some people. You might as well accept the teeny boppers as followers. You don't have to follow them back, ya know.
Helen - I know - I just feel bad - kind of like I'm misleading them I guess. Maybe I'll leave the next few alone :)
You think you've got a pretty original name, and whamee!
This teeny bopper thing IS weird. But I think Jemi Fraser is a great name. There was Stephen King, pretty simple name, nothing to write home about. And then he published awesome novels in the horror genre, and the rest is history.
Just be Jemi. Just Jemi. Jemi Fraser. Two syllables and two syllables. It's great!!
Ann - exactly! Whamee indeed :)
You're a sweetie Ann - thanks! It's a combination of family names - & I like it :)
I love your name. I prefer to think all those searchers WERE looking for you!
Belle - aaaaawwwwww! You're so sweet! If that were only the case :)
Aha..and speaking of stats..you, my friend...almost caused my email account to blow up! :) Never have I had so many emails come in for one blogger. Not like I'm jealous over at my shy and humble blog. Oh no, not me eh :)
Hmmmm....if I put a link on my next posting such as 'porn', I will, no doubt, get millions of hits for like zero seconds, when they realise my posting has nothing to do with porn, at all.
Right then email account, prepare to get swamped with comments on this here site....yikes....
Have a good weekend eh...I'm outta' here....
Gary - you crack me up! I am lucky enough to have a lot of bloggy friends who stop by to visit! :)
It's bizarre to see what some people search for on the internet - I can't decide if it's sad, pathetic or kinda funny :)
Good luck with that email.
Aha, I just go an email wishing me good luck with my email. After I publish this I will get an email that shows my comment...Yikes, someone help me...LOL eh...
This is all kinds of hilarious, I have to say. But I do really like the name Jemima. It's a great bible name (one of Job's daughters) and there was a Jemima in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang who was the cutest! But I guess the Quaker pancake & syrup character has kinda wrecked it, huh?
Enjoy your flash of fame. :-)
Gary - ... and then you'll get an email responding to that email... when will it end?? :)
Laurel - yup - it's all about the syrup now! :)
Thanks - I think the timing has been hilarious!
Jemi Fraser said...
"Gary - ... and then you'll get an email responding to that email... when will it end?? :)"Me thinks I'm stuck in 'Groundblog Day'.
I could unsubscribe to follow up comments and my email account would return to normal :) Right then I'm off for some pancakes with maple syrup eh....
Did you know, do you care, the most comments my site ever gets is when the family dog, Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet star, 'pawblishes' a posting?
Must dash back to my email account and read the comment I just left here..Bye...:)
Gary - lol! I hope this doesn't turn into Groundhog Day (it's terrifying when that happens) ... hope Penny doesn't get too jealous too! :)
Happy reading!
Oh my, here we go again :) 'Groundblog Day' meet 'Groundhog Day'.
Penny is a very popular dog and is a much better writer than I could ever be.
Right then, yet another comment and another 'hit' on your stats. Gosh Jemi, are you lucky or what eh! :)
Time to go back to my shy and humble, apparently 'well-kept secret' blog...
Christy and I both have common enough names that we don't even appear when you google us separately. Even together, we're in competition for two sisters (yes, Christy and Erica) who record precious memories of their lives (texting, riding in cars, etc.) on YouTube.
So, maybe we just accept that all publicity is good publicity??
erica
I had to call my blog and my email address "Susan Fields Writer" because Susan Fields is such a popular name. But now, when I Google my name, my blog is the first link to come up! When I first started my blog, I don't think I was even on the first page.
You never know who might come your way looking for Jemi- it might not be a bad thing!
I like your name--pretty and unique. I, by the way, had a Gemmy in a middle grade novel I wrote in 2007.
I agree with Stephanie above me.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
I promise I'm laughing with, not at! I'm not attracting any teenyboppers, just... wait, no, I am. I illustrated a post wtih a picture of Captain Jack Sparrow and mentioned him, and now I think about it, I do get a few people meandering through looking for him. And indeed, they'd be mad not to.
Gary - :)
Erica - that's so funny! You'd think in combination that your names would stand out. It's such a ridiculous coincidence that those 2 sisters are doing the you tube thing :)
Susan - good for you! It's not easy to move page on Google :)
It bizarre how many same names there are out there!
Stephanie - I know. It's really kind of a bizarre coincidence, but it's not bad! :)
Thanks Dawn! I'm glad you like the name - it's a family one :)
Hope your weekend is good too!
Amie - this is very true - they'd be made not too! :)
I'm laughing with me too - it's okay - timing is fun :)
I couldn't help giggling a bit at this, Jemi - I'm sorry!
But hey, at least you're attracting the right demographic!
How could you have known? lol. Just think of all the high traffic numbers you'll be able to boast about. ; )
Madmother is right!
But, dear, this is the kind of worrying you shouldn't be doing. Use the stats to know who's reading your stuff. ;)
Talli - that's okay - I laugh about it all the time too! Whenever I get a new follower on Twitter, I just assume it's someone looking for THAT Jemi :)
Calista - I know - the timing was really bizarre! I wonder if teeny-bopper numbers count the regular way :)
Mari - it's all good - it'll probably be another 6 months before I even look at the stats again! :)
Jemi...have teen followers are the best kind of followers when you are a writer. I love your name!
Sharon - thanks :)
If the teens would stick around for more than 5 seconds, it would probably help! Maybe the photo on this post will encourage them :)
I just thank my lucky stars that I changed my surname from Bieber to Bartlett when I did.
Dave - lol - that's hysterical! Definitely a good choice :D
Poor you, Jemi! I can't believe you got mixed up in a Jemi-romance. No, I can't say that's happened to me.
Glad they broke up for your sake.
Theresa - I know! Sounds awful, but I'm glad things didn't work out for them either - I feel so mean!!! But I really don't need to be part of the romance :)
I didn't know about this couple!
When I look at my statistics, people are looking for book downloads. Perhaps because of all the books on my site.
My kids are into the Disney shows. Fortunately for me the Hannah Montana craze is over!
Medeia - I doubt I would have know about this couple either - just lucky timing I guess :)
That's not too surprising of a search term - you do discuss a lot of terrific books!
Stephen - those teeny bopper years can be so hard on parents!!! It's generally not our music style! :)
Really, when you think of it, all those hits can only help you, right? It should keep your blog close to the top of a google search if I understand how it works right. That's not a bad thing at all! :) Try searching for Nisa. My blog doesn't even come up! I'm not sure why.
http://nisaswineford.blogspot.com/
Jemima! *snort* not so great... but I think people finding you by accident can be a good thing! A happy accident, yes?
hang in there~ <3
Nisa - really? That seems so odd. You've got an unusual name too - I would have though it would show up right away!
I actually don't have a clue how searches work and how names show up at the top of the list. I've never looked into it. There are SO many things I don't know!!! :)
Leigh - I know! Tell me visions of maple syrup don't swamp your head when you hear Jemima! :)
I wonder if anyone has found my blog by mistake and then stayed ... wish it could tell me that! :)
OMG, that is too funny! I had no idea they were dubbed "Jemi." Can you tell I'm over 16? It could be worse. People could come to you via porn sites, which is what my stats say. What the heck is that all about?
Julie - exactly! If it hadn't been for the timing of starting with social media, I probably would never have heard their combined names :)
Really??? Can't imagine for a moment how they would jump from that to your site! Yikes!!!
Wow--and you did your homework, too. Well, I don't think I'm driving any teeny-boppers looking for idols crazy. . . At least I hope not. I'd hate to disappoint them. ; )
hi miss jemima! ha ha. nope that not you for sure. theres some one that famous with my same name but i only get hits for on my blog cause im not on that tweet or facebook so for me its not a problem. i couldnt wanna change my name either. sorry you gotta get so much bother on it but just keep on being jemi.
...hugs from lenny
Cynthia - I know! It's hard - I don't like anyone feeling sad when they arrive on my site! :) Hopefully the name disappears soon :)
Thanks Lenny - you're a sweetie! And you're so right - Jemima is most definitely NOT my style!! :)
You're the only Jemi I know of : ). Really, who are these peeps? (perhaps I'm dating myself) And how did you figure out by your stats the length of stay from some of the visitors to your site. Every time my full name shows up in a search, I feel kind of funny.
Ezzy - the kids I teach are into all of these stars so I had heard of them before, but my kids are too old to be interested :)
There's a pie chart on Stat Counter that shows me the lenght of stay of visitors - under 5 sec, 5-30 sec, 30 sec - 5 min,...
It is an odd feeling seeing your name show up! It still makes me feel odd!
Totally cracked up at the Jemi blend! What are the odds? I Googled myself and there was a Leslie Rose who posted what she obviously thought were sexy poses and they SO weren't. If anyone thinks she's me, I'm digging a hole and jumping in.
Leslie - okay - that's MUCH worse than a celebrity hook up!!! Yuck!
I can't imagine anyone would think that of you - you're such a sweetie!
Jemima... Then you would have syrup searchers on your website. Hee, hee.
I'm still convinced that focusing on my traffic sucks the fun out of blogging, but maybe after I actually have a book contract I'll take it seriously. :o)
Good luck, Jemi! Big hugs!
Jackee - exactly - and no one wants maple syrup searchers to be disappointed!! :)
That's pretty much how I feel - although I did enjoy finding this out! Haven't been back to the stats page though so I don't think I'm in danger of being sucked in!! :)
I didn't know Joe and Demi are a couple :) Cute :)
My HOLLYWOOD SPY shares the name with some HOLLYWOOD SPY shop in California :) and we've been battling at Google who shall take the first spot in their first search page under HOLLYWOOD SPY, and so far I am winning :))))
Dez - I think they've broken up now, but the name persists! :)
I'm so glad you're winning! It's something I never thought about - and will probably promptly forget about - but the stats biz is kinda fun!
Thank goodness I don't have this problem. And I'd definitely stick with Jemi if I were you. Jemima doesn't work for anything put pancakes anymore. :)
Pat - I know! Definitely think the pancake image wouldn't work to help me sell books if I ever get that far!! :)
Hey, don't feel bad! People constantly find my blog by Googling coffee mate creamer and/or tiny panties. I bet the tiny panties crowd doesn't stick around long!!!
Michelle - Yikes!! That's much, much worse!!! :)
I really wonder about people who put that kind of stuff into search engines! Really, really odd :)
