Another fabulous blog buddy released her debut novel the other day. Due to June chaos I completely missed it *sigh*
Anyway Julie Anne Nelson's ya novel The Wild Wood is out! The cover's awesome...
Here's the blurb...
In the town of Dunlowe, being different can be deadly. No one knows this
better than the seven girls born on the exact same day, at the exact same time.
From birth, they've been feared, judged, and controlled. And yet, still loved by
their families. Still hoping for a future. Still believing that acceptance would
one day come. As their seventeenth birthday approaches, events occur that leave
Cecily Daye and the other girls grasping with the possibility that their
oppressors might have been right about them all along. Maybe they are as evil as
the town has believed. But without an answer, they must make a choice when the
town turns on them: to die or to run to the one place no person would
follow—they must enter The Wild Wood.
"A suspenseful story about friends, family and sacrifice... The town of Dunlowe,
shivering under Pastor Rowe's rule, is sufficiently enigmatic-not to mention
terrifying-to create suspense and deliver thrills." Kirkus Reviews
Awesome!!! I'm not finished it yet, but I'm loving it so far. Julie 's writing is tight and pulls you in. The setting is creeptastic! Love Cecily and her toughness and passion. The suspense is killing me! Can't wait to finish my writing goal today so I can reward myself with a few more chapters!
If you haven't met Julie yet, you're totally missing out. She's one of the sweetest people in the entire bloggy-verse. Pop on over to her blog and see what I mean!
What book have you been rewarding yourself with lately?

This is a really good time for book releases!
I'm reading a review copy of Nancy Thompson's The Mistaken. Wow! Very tense.
Alex - it is! I don't know Nancy's work - I'm going to have to check her out! :)
I'm letting my wip settle and percolate before I go back for revisions and I'm rewarding myself by writing whatever I like and reading Joe Abercrombie's BEFORE THEY ARE HANGED, the second in a series.
MsH - I've just picked up a wip that's been sitting for a few months. It really helps me to let it settle! :)
Just downloaded last week! Looking forward to reading.
Caroline - yay! It's really great so far! :)
Small towns and superstition. So many books could be written and have been written on this. Sounds like a good one.
Sounds very creepy! Congrats to the author!
Harvee - so far, it's great! :)
Mary - it is! Loving it :)
Thanks for introducing me to Literary Jules.
Oooh, this looks fantastic! I haven't heard of it before, so thanks for spotlighting it.
Susan - she's a total sweetie - you'll love her :)
Elana - you're very welcome! I hoping to get back to it later today! :)
"seven girls born on the exact same day, at the exact same time" -- There is something mysterious and creepy-sounding about this story! Thanks for highlighting this book!
Dianne - exactly - creepy and mysterious is what it is! :)
I just went over to her blog - I love her way of writing and many congrats to her!
I think "creepy" writing is one of the hardest to pull off because everyone has their own level of creepiness, I guess for lack of better word, they can handle. Congrats to Julie (and yes, it's a wonderful cover)!
erica
Elsie - she has a lovely style - and she's a lovely lady :)
Erica - creepy is tough. I think she does a great job of it - with both the characters and the setting! :)
Congratulations to Julie!
Darn, I missed the release date as well . . . I'd meant to keep track. Too many good books being released across the blogosphere--almost. :)
I've been rewarding myself with reading Sherlock Holmes; I've read maybe 2/3 of the 60 stories.
Golden Eagle - I totally agree! There are a ton of great books out there - it's hard to keep track!! I haven't read Holmes in years! I'll have to go back and read them again. I remember liking the Red Headed league best :)
I'm so ridiculously happy for the awesome Julie Nelson! Just got my three copies in the mail (one for me, two for my nieces). Can't wait to dig in!
oh, this one sounds intriguing!! I love the cover too.
Many congrats to Julie! The cover is fantastic.
Debra - I'm so excited too! She's deserves every success :)
Lynda - it is intriguing! I'm over half way through now and I love the twists and turns the story takes :)
Talli - it is! She's done a good job tying it in to the story :)
Congratulations to Julie! That is a STUNNING cover.
Julie - I think it is too :)
Sounds like a cool premise and what an awesome review from Kirkus!!
Sounds great! Will have to see what this is all about. Great review!
Gorgeous cover, and a story that sounds compelling! I will hop over and meet Julie!
Lisa - that Kirkus review gave me a chill for Julie!
Lee - it is! I'm enjoying the story - great setting and characters! :)

This is new to me. Love the premise of seven girls being born simultaneously.
I love hearing about wonderful new books coming out. Thanks for putting this post up, Jemi.
I'm about to dive into Martha Brockenbrough's Devine Intervention, which I heard great things about on another blog.
I like the sound of creeptastic. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this book. Congrats to Julie on her release.
I recently finished Wintergirls, which I had my eye on for a long time. It was a treat to read it since I love Laurie Halse Anderson's work.
That is a very haunting cover.
Leslie - Julie does a great job of using that fact too - fascinating story :)
Tricia - I haven't heard of Martha's yet - thanks for the tip. I'll check hers out too!
Medeia - I've had my eyes on Wintergirls too. Laurie has such beautiful style :)
Charmaine - and it matches the story very well! :)
I like the sound of this one. I'm looking it up now. Thanks!
I'm reading The Fault in Our Stars, which has really sucked me in. I recently enjoyed Breadcrumbs and another one called Inside Out and Back Again.
Theresa - yay! I keep hearing about The Fault but I haven't picked it up yet - really have to do that!! :)
