Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!
And we’re revving up IWSG Day to make it more fun and interactive! Every month, we'll announce a question that members can answer in their IWSG Day post. These questions may prompt you to share advice, insight, a personal experience or story. Include your answer to the question in your IWSG post or let it inspire your post if you are struggling with something to say.
November's Question: What is your favourite aspect of being a writer?
Another tough question!
There's so much I love, but I really love the thought that, one day, my characters will be 'alive' for someone else.
For me, reading and writing are all about the characters and their emotions. The people in the books I've read have often become real for me, starting with Anne of Green Gables way back when. If the characters' emotions reach into me, then those characters become people.
If I can write characters who truly come alive for a reader or two, that would be incredible!
How about you? Is it all about the characters for you, too? What's your favourite part of writing? Or reading?

Alive for someone else - a reader sees them like you see them! Something special about that connection.
I love it when an author makes their characters so realistic you feel you know them and you want to visit with them again and again. Those are the type of characters readers can relate to.

I want my characters to be as real as those I've read, too.
That's a great part about being a writer! And a great part of being a reader, too.
Our characters being alive for someone else is wonderful. I have characters that I can't wait to bring into this world. :)
That's why I write too. So that someone else can believe in my characters too. Because the more people who believe in them, the more real they feel to me.
Oh yes. I think sharing a character with others is an all time high!
I love the idea of one of my characters coming alive for someone else.
Nice thoughts!
I love the characters, too. I'm still liking my current ones, and I'm rounding the bend on editing a trilogy.
Great choice. That's something I struggle with as a writer but so important.
Mmm. That's a great day indeed. And you'll get there. You will.
Exactly! So well said. I have to love the characters I'm reading and writing about.
There is! Hoping it happens for me one day :)
Agreed! There are so many I could name!
It is!!! :)
I agree! I still get emotional about Beth!
Me too! I've gotten to know them well, and they deserve to be out there!
Exactly! Kind of like TinkerBell!
It is! Sharing with CPs is as far as I've gotten, but it spurs me on! :)
Thanks! I bet yours do!
It's SUCH a good sign when you still like them about living with them for so long :P
It is! Making them real is tough :)
I hope so!! Thanks for the confidence boost!
Me too! And yours are awesome! :)
Bringing those characters alive is really special.
I answered this question on someone else's blog this morning--we'll see if I actually answer the same way! For me, I think it's just about the fun of exercising creativity. I really enjoy being creative, and this seems to be the best way for me to do that.
It is! Hopefully I can do it one day!
That's a great answer! Creativity is important in my life too.
This question probably gets a different answer from me at different times too. Fickle :)
I hear you. It really does take only one reader who connects with your characters to put a writer into a euphoric state. Making the connection with the characters and the readers is so wonderful.
Hi Jemi! My favourite part of writing is editing LOL! But, really, telling that story is a feat!
It is! :)
Dear God - that scares me!!!! I could first draft all day long for the rest of my years - editing is HARD!
Hi, Jemi,
I totally agree... my favorite part of reading is connecting with the characters and the CHEMISTRY they have with each other.
I agree--they're like a whole second family keeping company with my mind. I never feel too entirely lonely because the characters I'm creating always have some new thing to tell me.
I once jokingly described it as getting paid to talk to and about all your imaginary friends.
I agree! I love creating characters and creating magical worlds. Tons of fun! I also love working and brainstorming with my writing partner. :)

Exactly!!! That's the pull for me :)
That's so true - and exactly what it's like. Perfect :)
I'd like to experience that one day - sounds like fun!!
