Celebrate Good Times - Come On!

Kool & the Gang's song isn't even on my iTunes, but it's perfectly appropriate right now. My laptop is back!!!! (Definitely !!!! worthy news I think)

Apparently the problem was the "RAM was broken". Surprised me (with my zero tech-knowledge). I thought RAM was memory and am surprised RAM being broken could prevent my laptop from powering up. But it's fixed now and I didn't lose any data at all! :)

The first thing I did was check my writing files and then email them to my multiple accounts. Next on the list is to buy an external hard-drive and figure out mozy backups.

I'm so glad I got an iPod Touch for Christmas. It may have been small and really, really hard on the eyes, but my kids were so busy with their assignments and studying it was a life-saver. Otherwise I think I'd have been able to get online twice. Yikes! Talk about stress :)

So - back to business...

I received several blog awards while I was out of touch. Linking on the iTouch was way beyond my capabilities, so I put it all of until now. Today I'd like to thank a few of those people.

Talli Roland passed the Blogger Buddy award my way. I love the graphic of this award. It's appropriate because that's the way I feel when I pop by Talli's. You've got to check her out if you haven't done so already.

Stephanie Thornton at Hatshepsut: The Writing of a Novel and Tara at Feel of Something New both passed the Prolific Blogger Award my way. I promise to be much better in this department now that the laptop is back. Both of these blogs are fun and informative. You won't regret visiting either one of these great ladies!

Lisa Gibson at Random Thoughts to String Together sent the Sweet Blog My Way. Lisa's another AQ buddy - her pretty in purple blog is another one I love to visit. Check it out!

That's all for now! I apologize for not passing any along today - it's too crazy of a day getting everything reorganized and catching up! I hope to do better when I pass along the rest :) In the meantime, check out these awesome bloggers and have a great weekend!

I'm so glad your laptop is back! Even better news that everything is still there! :) I didn't know that RAM could go bad either. We got an external hard drive after our motherboard on our last computer died... but I need to start backing things up to it. Thanks for stopping by my blog and being such an encourager!

Woo! You must be feeling a little out of the loop being away for so long! Glad you're back!
I also have an ipod touch. It's great to keep up with emails when I'm away.
Congrats on all your awards! Looks like you were certainly missed!

Melody - thanks! I'm so excited I didn't lose my data. I hadn't realized how nervous I was until I knew it was safe and I got a little teary eyed. *sigh* Sad, but true.

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks Terry Lynn! I love my iPod touch, but my eyes aren't very good at the best of times. I can only use it for a little while at a time.

I'm glad to be back :)

Congrats on your good computer news and your awards! I've never heard of Ram breaking. I'll have to look out for it!

Jemi Fraser said...

Aubrie - thanks! Yeah - I'd never heard of it either. But as long as it didn't delete my data I'm happy!

Lovely to see you back blogging, Jemi.

Nothing worse than being without a computer.

Congrats on the awards, oh so popular one :)

Double and triple YAY! I am so glad you didn't lose your writing. That would hurt so much.

Every single book I've written has it's own USB. Not to mention hard file on my computer and once I finish the 1st draft I usually print out a paper version. I'm deathly scared of losing all that work.

Delighted to have you back with a perfectly working computer and more so to hear you didn't lose your writing. (Hugs)Indigo

Jemi Fraser said...

Harvee - oops I missed your comment at first! Sorry! You're so right - getting the computer back is the best reward/award of all :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks Talli! You're right - we get so attached to our computers. I'm so used to multi-tasking, it was weird ONLY cooking supper or putting on makeup... :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks Julie - I know the NERVE of that RAM :) But I'll forgive it seeing as I've got all the important stuff back!

It's a good job there are people out there who know how to fix RAMs when they break. Glad it's all up and running again. :-)

Jemi Fraser said...

Rosalind - so very, very true. If it were up to me to repair it, the laptop would sadly become an interesting paperweight!

Jemi Fraser said...

Susan - you're right! It was a terrific welcome back :)

I'm so glad to have my laptop back - it's amazing how attached we've become!

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks Stephen! The times I tried to use the libraries computers, they were booked by kids studying and doing assignments. *sigh*

Thank goodness for the iTouch :)

hooray! and hooray for not losing any data. I keep thinking about that external hard drive issue -- wouldn't be a bad investment.

You did a great job keeping up when your computer was gone.

Lee - I agree - the hard drive is an excellent investment, if only for the peace of mind.

It was tough keeping up with the iTouch, but I was thrilled to have it! :)

One thing that yourpost makes me consider, and some of the subsequent comments here, is the importance of teachers being in tune (no pun intended) with technology. The changes in technology are having such a profound affect on our profession that the more one resists the more difficult it is to catch up and join the revolution. It probably doesn't help that as teachers we are subjected to endless professional development workshops on the subject, often with no or little follow through by the administration, but that is for another post.

Anyway, thanks for the posting. Peace, from another educator. (ssternberg.wordpress.com)

Yay for the laptop being back!!! How scary that it was broken--and glad you backed up!

Anne Spollen said...

I actually (secretly) like when the Internet goes down for a while b/c then I can open my word files and actually write. I can't go look up whether or not pandas eat anything except eucalyptus or how fat my college boyfriend's wife is getting...yup, I've done both those things.

But you do need it after a short time, I know - RAMS and all.

Lisa_Gibson said...

Yay! Definite reason to celebrate. So glad you're back. See you around the blog. ;)

Jemi Fraser said...

Stewart - great point! I am pretty good with software and with some computer tech stuff. The kids & staff in other classes always send for me or 1 other teacher if they have problems with their computers, video projectors or ELMOs (document cameras). But I don't know how to fix any of the innards - I'd really like some training on hardware!

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks Karen - I'm happy to be back too :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Saumya - thanks so much! I appreciate you dropping by :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Kirsten - yes! Time to write is hard enough to come by - I don't need technical difficulties getting in my way too! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks E! I'm so excited to have it back - but it's really hard catching up on everything I've missed! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Beth - thanks! I'm glad too. I didn't back up often enough before. My aim is to do much better in that department!!

Jemi Fraser said...

Anne - lol :) Yes, the internet can be quite a distraction! If I'd had anything to do my writing on it wouldn't have been nearly as bad!

Jemi Fraser said...

Lisa - thanks! Happy dancing is still ongoing! :)
