Apparently the problem was the "RAM was broken". Surprised me (with my zero tech-knowledge). I thought RAM was memory and am surprised RAM being broken could prevent my laptop from powering up. But it's fixed now and I didn't lose any data at all! :)
The first thing I did was check my writing files and then email them to my multiple accounts. Next on the list is to buy an external hard-drive and figure out mozy backups.
I'm so glad I got an iPod Touch for Christmas. It may have been small and really, really hard on the eyes, but my kids were so busy with their assignments and studying it was a life-saver. Otherwise I think I'd have been able to get online twice. Yikes! Talk about stress :)
I received several blog awards while I was out of touch. Linking on the iTouch was way beyond my capabilities, so I put it all of until now. Today I'd like to thank a few of those people.
Stephanie Thornton at Hatshepsut: The Writing of a Novel and Tara at Feel of Something New both passed the Prolific Blogger Award my way. I promise to be much better in this department now that the laptop is back. Both of these blogs are fun and informative. You won't regret visiting either one of these great ladies!
Lisa Gibson at Random Thoughts to String Together sent the Sweet Blog My Way. Lisa's another AQ buddy - her pretty in purple blog is another one I love to visit. Check it out!
That's all for now! I apologize for not passing any along today - it's too crazy of a day getting everything reorganized and catching up! I hope to do better when I pass along the rest :) In the meantime, check out these awesome bloggers and have a great weekend!

I'm so glad your laptop is back! Even better news that everything is still there! :) I didn't know that RAM could go bad either. We got an external hard drive after our motherboard on our last computer died... but I need to start backing things up to it. Thanks for stopping by my blog and being such an encourager!
Woo! You must be feeling a little out of the loop being away for so long! Glad you're back!
I also have an ipod touch. It's great to keep up with emails when I'm away.
Congrats on all your awards! Looks like you were certainly missed!
Melody - thanks! I'm so excited I didn't lose my data. I hadn't realized how nervous I was until I knew it was safe and I got a little teary eyed. *sigh* Sad, but true.
Thanks Terry Lynn! I love my iPod touch, but my eyes aren't very good at the best of times. I can only use it for a little while at a time.
I'm glad to be back :)
Congrats on your good computer news and your awards! I've never heard of Ram breaking. I'll have to look out for it!
Aubrie - thanks! Yeah - I'd never heard of it either. But as long as it didn't delete my data I'm happy!
YAY for getting your laptop back! And even better that you didn't lose anything important. I'm opening a virtual bottle of champagne for you to celebrate! Have a great weekend, Jemi. :)
Lovely to see you back blogging, Jemi.
Nothing worse than being without a computer.
Congrats on the awards, oh so popular one :)
Congratulations on your blog award and fixed RAM. I thought RAM was memory too.
Double and triple YAY! I am so glad you didn't lose your writing. That would hurt so much.
Glad you're fully back!

Straight From Hel
Every single book I've written has it's own USB. Not to mention hard file on my computer and once I finish the 1st draft I usually print out a paper version. I'm deathly scared of losing all that work.
Delighted to have you back with a perfectly working computer and more so to hear you didn't lose your writing. (Hugs)Indigo
Congrats on your awards!!
Glad your back, Jemi!
Hip Hip HOORAY!!!!
I know the relief you are feeling. Been there.
So glad you didn't lose anything.
You're back baybee!
Welcome back online! You've been doing well to post and comment with just the iPhone - I've got the same phone but not the patience to blog from it.
Congrats on your awards. Fixing the computer was a good reward too.
Congratulations on getting your computer back and everything still being there. Time for a happy dance. In addition, congratulations on the awards, well deserved.

What? RAM can be broken? How bizarre.
But welcome back! And congrats on your awards!
Yay! So glad everything is back in working order and you didn't lose any vital info! We missed you!

Mystery Writing is Murder
Yay! You're back - I missed you! :)
What a relief to get your computer fixed. I hate to be without mine.
Hope you're having a great weekend.
Thanks Laura - it's good to be back! And that virtual champagne is awesome :)
Wendy - thanks so much! It feels so much better knowing my laptop is here in the house :)
Theresa - the RAM thing has me a bit confused - but I guesss as long as it's working now, it doesn't matter what it was :)
Thanks Helen! I was thrilled to have not lost the data! It was so hard wondering about it :)
Indigo - I'm always nervous about the USB sticks getting broken/lost... I do have older versions on them, but I'm going to be MUCH better now about saving! :)
Kimberly - thanks :)
Thanks Alex - it's good to be back! :)
Thanks Lola! I'm SO happy my writing is there with all the updates - such a relief :)
Charmaine - thanks! I was able to borrow the kids' computer long enough to write up the 2 posts - thankfully. The commenting was tough enough with that tiny screen. :)
Mason - it's such a huge relief having all the edits/revisions there. I would have shed more than a few tears if it had been gone. :)
Shannon - thanks so much - it's good to be back :)
Thanks Sandy :) I'm so glad I didn't lose anything. And I'm grateful to have had the iTouch - but it was tough!!
Erica - thanks! Yes the iTouch is awesome - I absolutely love it. But I'm sure glad to have the full screen and the full keyboard back! :)
DL - thanks so much - I'm so glad to have it back!! :)
Thanks TK - what a kind thing to say :) I really missed the whole bloggyverse!
Tricia - thanks! You can imagine what a relief it was to find all the data intact! So awesome! :)
Alyson - thanks :) Me too! It's a crazy busy weekend - but tons of fun! Hope yours is awesome as well!
Technological disasters give me hives. Glad you are back in business. Silly RAM mucking up your writing journey. The nerve. :)
Harvee - oops I missed your comment at first! Sorry! You're so right - getting the computer back is the best reward/award of all :)
Carol - thanks! I still think it's bizarre that broken RAM froze the whole computer up. But I know zip about the technical aspects :)
VR - thanks :) I was SO nervous opening up the computer and the files. The relief was huge!!
Jackee - thanks so much! You're so sweet! I'm so glad to be back! :)
Thanks Elizabeth - as you can imagine it was such an enormous relief opening the files and seeing all the data there! :)
Thanks Talli! You're right - we get so attached to our computers. I'm so used to multi-tasking, it was weird ONLY cooking supper or putting on makeup... :)
Thanks Julie - I know the NERVE of that RAM :) But I'll forgive it seeing as I've got all the important stuff back!
Yay on laptop return! Someone recommended Sugar Sync to me as a backup system--look it up. I use it and have been very happy so far.
Michele
SouthernCityMysteries
Thanks Michele - I'll have to check that one out too. There's so much to do! But it's fun :)
I absolutely love the snoopy picture! Snoopy is just so joyful, just like you. Great to hear about your laptop!
Thanks Lynn! I love Snoopy - & I'm definitely feeling joyful right now! :)
Glad you back up and running! Congrats on the awards!
Thanks so much Alyssa! I'm SO glad to have the laptop back :)
It's a good job there are people out there who know how to fix RAMs when they break. Glad it's all up and running again. :-)
Rosalind - so very, very true. If it were up to me to repair it, the laptop would sadly become an interesting paperweight!
Jemi, I wanted to let you know that I did open the contest to Canadian residents, so feel free to enter!
Oooo - thanks Carol!! Much appreciated - you're a sweetie :)
Yay; you're back.
......dhole
Congrats on the awards and fixed laptop.
Thanks Donna! It's good to be back :)
Thanks Medeia - the fixed laptop has been the best present so far!! :)
Congrats! on having your lifeline and lifeblood back, figuratively speaking. I hated when mine went down. But at least the library has free Internet and computer usage for the general public. Glad to have you back.
Stephen Tremp
Susan - you're right! It was a terrific welcome back :)
I'm so glad to have my laptop back - it's amazing how attached we've become!
Thanks Stephen! The times I tried to use the libraries computers, they were booked by kids studying and doing assignments. *sigh*
Thank goodness for the iTouch :)
hooray! and hooray for not losing any data. I keep thinking about that external hard drive issue -- wouldn't be a bad investment.
You did a great job keeping up when your computer was gone.

May 3rd A to Z Challenge Reflections Mega Post
Lee - I agree - the hard drive is an excellent investment, if only for the peace of mind.
It was tough keeping up with the iTouch, but I was thrilled to have it! :)
One thing that yourpost makes me consider, and some of the subsequent comments here, is the importance of teachers being in tune (no pun intended) with technology. The changes in technology are having such a profound affect on our profession that the more one resists the more difficult it is to catch up and join the revolution. It probably doesn't help that as teachers we are subjected to endless professional development workshops on the subject, often with no or little follow through by the administration, but that is for another post.
Anyway, thanks for the posting. Peace, from another educator. (ssternberg.wordpress.com)
Congrats on your awards and laptop!! Your blog is so cute and the awards appear very well deserved!
Yay! Time to write again - congrats! And congrats on the blog awards :)
Yea! So glad you got your compy back. And congrats on all the awards awaiting your return!
Yay for the laptop being back!!! How scary that it was broken--and glad you backed up!
I actually (secretly) like when the Internet goes down for a while b/c then I can open my word files and actually write. I can't go look up whether or not pandas eat anything except eucalyptus or how fat my college boyfriend's wife is getting...yup, I've done both those things.
But you do need it after a short time, I know - RAMS and all.
Yay! Definite reason to celebrate. So glad you're back. See you around the blog. ;)
Stewart - great point! I am pretty good with software and with some computer tech stuff. The kids & staff in other classes always send for me or 1 other teacher if they have problems with their computers, video projectors or ELMOs (document cameras). But I don't know how to fix any of the innards - I'd really like some training on hardware!
Thanks Karen - I'm happy to be back too :)
Saumya - thanks so much! I appreciate you dropping by :)
Kirsten - yes! Time to write is hard enough to come by - I don't need technical difficulties getting in my way too! :)
Thanks E! I'm so excited to have it back - but it's really hard catching up on everything I've missed! :)
Beth - thanks! I'm glad too. I didn't back up often enough before. My aim is to do much better in that department!!
Anne - lol :) Yes, the internet can be quite a distraction! If I'd had anything to do my writing on it wouldn't have been nearly as bad!
Lisa - thanks! Happy dancing is still ongoing! :)
Welcome back, woot! Thanks for the sweet comments on my blog, and congrats on all you awards :)
Thanks Tara!! you're so welcome! It's great to be back :)
I'm so glad to see everything is back up and running for you, Jemi! And those awards are totally appropriate and well deserved in my not so humble opinion. :)
Awww - thanks Kimberly! I'm so glad to be back in the game :)
Great awards. Now I'm gonna have that song in my head! LOL
Jessica - LOL :) Yup - it's one of THOSE songs. It'll drive you batty in no time!
Thanks :)
Yeah! I'm so happy for you and your computer. Losing my laptop is like my worst nightmare. I use it ALL the time. I keep saying I might have to have it surgically removed at some point. Congrats on all the awards!
Thanks Lisa :) I'm thrilled the laptop's back. I love your line about removing it surgically - I may have to use it sometime!
That's great news! I may have to take in Hal soon. He's still not letting me type on his keyboard.
Congrats on all your awards!
Glad your computer is back in business! Congrats on the awards :))
yay! you got your laptop back and didn't lose anything! double pluses!
To be without a computer is bad, but today our coffee maker died, and it's less than a year old. Why can't electronic things just work?
Welcome back! :D Congrats on the awards and on your return to the internet world!
Hannah - Poor Hal - He'll feel better once his computer is active!
Thanks :)
Thanks Nicole - I'm sooooo glad it's back in action! :)
Tamara - yes - HUGE double pluses. The data being there was the absolute best gift ever! :)
Patricia - I agree! I hate when things just die. Our family motto is "technology hates me" :)
Shelley - thanks so much! It's so nice to be able to communicate with the outside world again :)
Yeah! I'll celebrate with you - great to have the laptop back :)
Glad your laptop is back. I would be lost without mine.
A favor, cyber hat in hand, would you mind looking at my entry in Melissa Marr's short story contest?
http://www.radiantprose.com/entry/view/301
If you like it, vote for it. If not, then still thanks for going the 2nd mile and having a look-see.
Wishing you strength for the mid-week, Roland
Thanks Michelle! It's so nice to have it back :)
Roland - I'll check it out if I have a bit of time later on! Good luck with it :)
