Long Leggedy Beasties

From ghoulies and ghosties
And long-leggedy beasties
And things that go bump in the night,
Good Lord, deliver us!
I remember my folks saying this old Scottish prayer to us around Hallowe'en. It always sent delightful shivers up and down my spine. I've always been a bit of a wimp, not too many brave bones in my body!

But Hallowe'en doesn't have to be all scary. We can always add a little Steampunk! That makes everything better!

Seriously, who doesn't love a good steampumpkin?? :) Happy Hallowe'en everyone!

So, do you like the things that go bump in the night?

Excellent photos.

Happy Halloween to you too, Jemi :)

Mason - that's pretty much me too! I can take a little fright - but nothing serious! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Jen - lol :)

Hope you have a great Hallowe'en too! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks Julie - I can't claim the name, but it is REALLY awesome! Enjoy the weekend!

Thanks Alexa - I love any steampunk stuff! My dad loved saying it too!

Thanks Wendy! Nice to see you - hope things are going well for you. Take care :)

I've never seen pumpkins like these. Thanks for sharingm. Sorry I haven't been around much lately. I've missed reading your fun blog.

Jemi Fraser said...

Kathi - Thanks - I love steampunk style! So very cool :)

Don't worry about it - real life has a habit of getting in the way. I'm having difficulties in that area myself!

Loved this. I write paranormal and horror so Halloween is right up my alley. Love the Scottish prayer. Wonderful idea to do a steampunk Halloween. (Hugs)Indigo

Love things that go bump in the night!
Think I'll give that little prayer to my grandkids tomorrow. Thank you.

Jemi Fraser said...

Indigo - thanks so much! I'm NOT a fan of horror - too wimpy :) - but I still like the spooky bits!

Jemi Fraser said...

Mary - you're so much braver than I am!! I hope the grandkids enjoy it! :)

Shelley Sly said...

The steampumpkin pictures are so fun! Also, my high school choir used to sing that Scottish prayer in a round. I thought it was interesting.

Amie Kaufman said...

Steampumpkin! Brilliant, I love it!

Natasha said...

What cute steampumpkins! They would hate me saying so, but they are adorable.

Jemi Fraser said...

Shelley - I didn't know there was music to it - my folks just said it straight out. I'll have to look that up! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Amie - I thought so too when I saw it! They're awesome! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Rayna - they probably would, but they really are! At least I think so :)

Steampunkins!!!! LOVE it! Happy Halloween!

Hilarious. Love these pumpkins. They're my kinda pumpkins. Personally, I do not like things that go bump in the night. I have a family, so those days of action and adventure are over for me. Something going bump in the night could be a potential threat to us. At least that's my way of thinking.

Stephanie Thornton said...

Holy cow! I never would have thought of steam punk pumpkins. That's totally awesome!

We're going to have a party for 14 three-year-olds tomorrow. EEK!

Tricia J. O'Brien said...

Have you ever steamed a pumpkin? Much better to give it a scary face. ;)

Rosalind Adam said...

I'm afraid that I'm a real wimp and I've never thrown myself into Hallowe'en celebrations. It could be a cultural/generation thing. In Leicester UK Hallowe'en was never acknowledged when I was a child.

Old Kitty said...

Yay!!!!!! I love these steampunk pumpkins!!!!!!!!! Awww they're brilliant!!! Now for some steampunk toffee apples and I'd be ecstatic!

Awwww wow!!!!! HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!!!

Take care
x

Jemi Fraser said...

Lindsay - me too! They sure made me smile :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Stephen - totally agree! Becoming a parent totally changed my perspective on scary things!

Jemi Fraser said...

Stephanie - yikes!! That's an example of extreme bravery! So things that go bump in the night should be a piece of cake for you :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Tricia - I've never even heard of doing that! What a cool idea! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Rosalind - my parents grew up in Scotland. When they moved to Canada they had no idea what in the world was going on! They found the whole thing kind of bizarre :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Old Kitty - thanks! I love the steampunk stuff. It's all so fun. :) Happy Halloween!

Kristi said...

I love these Steampumpkins! ;-)

I like all things that go bump in the night, as long as they keep their distance!

I am such a scaredy cat and yet...I like being scared for fun reasons.

Scary was so cool when I was younger but now that I'm the responsible adult, I don't like 'bump in the night' kind of things.

Anonymous said...

Now those are cool, creative pumpkins. Love them!! Happy Halloween to you to Jemi. Like that Scottish Prayer too.

Tricia J. O'Brien said...

Jemi! I realize you think I mean to carve it easier....um, no, never tried that. It might sort of melt. I was being silly, because steamed pumpkin meat is kind of bland, whereas carved faces are moments of glee. Happy Halloween!

Steampunk pumpkins look so cool! Happy Halloween!

Great pumpkins!!

Jemi Fraser said...

Kristi - I'm not even that brave! I'll keep working on it! Glad you liked the photos :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Teresa - I'm most definitely in the scaredy cat group with you! As long as it's fun, I guess it's okay.... not really! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks Alex! I'm glad you liked it :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Lenny - sounds like a lot of fun. Hippie costumes are always great! Hope you have lots of groovy peace while you're trick or treating! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Susan - maybe that's it! Becoming an adult those bumps can seem to be very real! I wasn't even afraid of heights at all until I had kids. Now, they're not my favourite thing!

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks Lynn! I hope you have a great weekend out your way too :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Tricia - yikes! I guess I was having one of my blonde moments! I can say that because I'm a natural blonde :)

We always toss the insides - can't stand the taste of pumpkin!

Jemi Fraser said...

Emy - thanks! They are fun - some of these Steampunkers are right into it all the time!

Jemi Fraser said...

Summer - I'm glad - they sure are fun, aren't they? :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks Diane - I love them too! Now I just have to do my own - it will probably be a traditional face drawn on in marker! :)

Lola Sharp said...

Steampunkins!!!!! LOVE these pictures/steampunkins. Love, love, LOVE.

Happy Halloween! :)

Love,
Lola

Jemi Fraser said...

Lola - Me too!!! They just make me smile each and every time! :) Enjoy the weekend!

Hahahh I love the photos! A clockwork orange would be great too.

I love ghost stories and writing them, I don't really believe in ghosts although I've had some rather unexplainable things happen to me and people love relating their own personal ghost stories to me. Some are posted on my blog now.
Happy Halloween!

Jackee said...

LOVE the second pumpkin!! I'm a total wimp too and only try to be nice about traditional festivities for my kid's sakes. :o)

Happy Halloween to you too!

erica m. chapman said...

Love it!! I love getting scared. Just saw Paranormal Activity 2 ;o) As long as the bumps in the night subside at bedtime, and also if they aren't real, I'm good.

Happy Halloween!!

Jemi Fraser said...

eeleenlee - I've had a few unexplained phenomena in my life too. Very spooky stuff. I'll check out your post!! :) Thanks for dropping by!

Jemi Fraser said...

Jackee - that kind of matches my own personal philosophy! I hate being scared!! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Erica - yikes!! I will never, ever, EVER watch any of those shows. I'd never sleep again! :)

Yvonne Osborne said...

Is that what a steam pumpkin looks like? I like the second one in particular. Actually they could go a long way in explaining exactly what steampumk is. Very cool. You make me want to carve one and it's almost too late. The little monsters will be out tonight. Better go buy some goodies....

Talli Roland said...

Love thos pumpkin pics - too cute! :) I am NOT a fan of things that go bump in the night. Not at all. *shiver*

Talli Roland said...

Er... 'those'! Sorry for the typo - they seem to be the things that go bump in my night lately!

Ellie Garratt said...

Steampumkin . . .brilliant!

Jemi Fraser said...

Yvonne - I loved them when I saw them - so very cool! I don't have that much talent - actually I'm about a zero on the crafty scale :) Enjoy the little witches and zombies!

Jemi Fraser said...

Talli - me too! I can't believe how many ridiculous mistakes I make. Thankfully I'm good at using the backspace key :) I use it way to often :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Ellie - I thought so too! Glad you enjoyed them :)

Ishta Mercurio said...

Steampumpkins - awesome! I wish I had thought of that...

Thanks for the smiles!

Jemi Fraser said...

Ishta - you're welcome - they made me grin as well! Some people are SO creative!

Tahlia said...

No I don't like things that go bump in the night, but I love your pumpkins... Sheesh that sounds bazare!

Mind you, my novel has night bumping things in it though.

Jemi Fraser said...

Tahlia - lol! Yup, it did sound just a touch bizarre! But it sure made me laugh :)

I've had a novel idea that kind of creeps me out running through my head. Don't know if I'm brave enough to write it!! Good luck with yours!

Arlee Bird said...

Happy Halloween after the fact. I'm totally running behind this year and now hiding in my house with all of the lights out because I forgot to buy any candy. There sure are a lot of people wandering the streets outside. That looks pretty scary in and of itself.

Awesome steampunkins :)

Loved the scottish prayer too. Way Cool. I like the spookiness of Halloween, but not the candy giving tradition. Just seems wrong to me.

I read your Iceberg post too - catching up here, can you tell?. Balancing backstory and actual narrative is a tricky process. I'm still struggling with it. I feel a lot like Pooh's clan :)

......dhole

Jemi Fraser said...

Lee - It has been a nutty year for me too. We didn't decorate at all this year - but I did manage to buy the candy! We had some of the cutest trick or treaters! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Donna - thanks Donna! I totally understand the trying to catch up thing! I'm so far behind in life right now :)

I'm with Pooh & his buddies too - gotta find that balance!

Adorable pics! I'm into the little kids dressing up (like my nieces) but other than that, I'm not huge on Halloween. Love the pics though. :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks Coreen - I love the steampunk images! :) We had a great Halloween - hope yours was the same.

Jemi Fraser said...

Lisa - I like the little cutie patooties who show up at the door, but I'm really glad my kids are way too old to dress up :)

Steampumpkin! What a wonderful concept:) Everyone likes things that go bump in the night! It reminds me of the smuggler poem by Kipling too...

Jemi Fraser said...

Alexandra - thanks - I love the steampumpkins too!! :)

I haven't read Kipling in ages. I'll have to correct that ... after NaNo :)

Heidi-"Heidi in Real Life" said...

Those are great ideas for pumpkins. Unfortunately, after carving 8 this year, I never want to see another pumpkin as long as I live.

Jemi Fraser said...

Heidi - 8??? Wow - I don't blame you! We didn't even carve any this year - just too busy!
