Dribs and Drabs

It's been a busy week  - lots of goodies going on.

Shannon McMahon has an anonymous critique going on her blog Somewhere Between Fact and Fiction. It's a great idea and I know she'd be thrilled if some new friends popped on over to help out with some insights. Check it out!

Talli Roland's blogsplash was a huge success! The Hating Game reached #24 on Amazon in the UK and #460 on Amazon in the US. Those are incredible numbers!! Congratulations Talli!

In other news, we were hit by almost a foot of snow last night - and we're expecting another 6 inches or more tonight. It all came in a few hours, so the plows weren't able to keep up. The roads were a mess, but we all made it to school and work! Winter is definitely here!

Janet Summer Johnson awarded me the Creative Blogger Award way back. Thanks Janet! Life has been nutbar crazy & that's my excuse for not thanking you before this! If you haven't visited Janet yet, check out the link - you won't regret it!!

Jessica Ann Hill awarded me the Magical Blog Award more recently! She's a terrific new friend! I love the photo on the award - la Tour Eiffel lit up is gorgeous! Check out her blog for lots of fun. :) Thanks Jessica!

So, have you been hit by snow yet? I know my Aussie and Kiwi friends are in the midst of summer and I'm more than a little jealous after all that shoveling!!

Snow???? Are you kidding? We were 70 degrees the other day.
Glad Talli's day was such a big hit!

Jemi Fraser said...

Alex - 70 degrees???? *sigh* I do love winter - but not when it comes all at once!

Sharon K. Mayhew said...

Wow, a foot of snow! We are awaiting our first snowfall tonight. :) Yay for Talli!!!

I'm off to check out Shannon's blog...Thanks for the link. :D

Jemi Fraser said...

Sharon - yup - a foot! It's only snowing very lightly and sporadically now so I'm hoping we don't get much more!

You'll enjoy Shannon's blog! Have fun! :)

VR Barkowski said...

A foot of snow? Guess I'd best quit complaining about our 26 degrees and sun. :)

Congrats on the awards and to Talli. Awesome!

Jemi Fraser said...

VR - lol :) It's been an interesting 24 hours! Hoping it's not going to get worse tonight! :)

Stephanie Thornton said...

Congrats on the awards!

We've gotten snow, but last week we had a crazy rain storm-all of Alaska was hit. We got two "ice" days off from school- the entire state was like a giant ice rink.

Happy weekend!

Alix said...

Lovely awards, congrats.

No snow here as yet. I am caught between sun envy and snow envy!

Jemi Fraser said...

Stephanie - I'll take a boat load of snow over freezing rain and ice any day! Icy roads are a total nightmare!! There's not much worse than freezing rain weather wise - at least not here!

Jemi Fraser said...

Alexa - thanks!

The snow was beautiful - the kids at school had a ball with the full white field this morning! So much fun :)

Shannon said...

Thanks for the shout out! <3

Enjoy the snow! I'm anxiously awaiting our first now.

Lisa_Gibson said...

Brrr! Snow. I'm not ready for it here. :) I will mail the book(s) for you soon.
thanks!

Karen Jones Gowen said...

Yes to the snow! Tons and tons of it. Congrats on the awards and of course to Talli's very successful blogspash!

Lynda R Young as Elle Cardy said...

That's a lot of snow. I wouldn't know what to do with that much snow! Congrats on your award :)

Old Kitty said...

Snow - beautiful snow everywhere!! Yay!!! Well here in Herts, there's a sprinkling but enough to make me feel all chrismassy - except of course the transport system's gone into meltdown as always! LOL!!

CONGRATULATIONS with your fab awards!!!! And YaY for Talli! Take care
x

Congratulations on your awards, you deserve them.
My snow is more dusting than frosting but the ice underneath it is a killer. It is bad snow not the pretty and soft stuff.

Elizabeth Spann Craig said...

I saw a few snowflakes, even here in the South! I thought this was supposed to be a warmer winter?

Congrats on your awards!

Jan Morrison said...

urggh. I don't want it and I know it is coming. I don't even have snow tires yet. so far it is so pleasant but it could change in a heartbeat.
let's see some pictures deary!

Laura Pauling said...

I'm so glad Talli's push for some exposure worked! Congrats on the awards. We had an intense flurry/blizzard like snow fall last week, but it didn't last and it didn't add up.

Jemi Fraser said...

Shannon - you're welcome! I hope you get a few folks to help out with crits!

The kids at school had a blast in the snow yesterday - it was tons of fun! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Lisa - I'm not sure we're quite ready for it either, but it's here! Thanks so much!! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Karen - I like the snow too - just not a big fan of 2 hours of shoveling! :) Thanks!!

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks Lynda! It's a pile, but we've had much worse in less time so we don't complain too much ... well, except about the shoveling - we always complain about that! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Old Kitty - thanks! I was so glad to see Talli's success :)

I was a little surprised they didn't cancel school buses yesterday, but everything seemed to work out quite well anyway!

Jemi Fraser said...

Elaine - it is a pain when the ice is trapped. We had some of that in the playground at school, but mostly the kids were able to stay way above it :)

The UK has been hit much harder than normal by the sounds of things though - we've seen some photos on the news here.

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks Elizabeth! We're supposed to have a warmer season too - although we're also supposed to have more snow than usual too!

Jemi Fraser said...

Jan - we just put snow tires on one of the vehicles - the others are probably okay. I will have to get out and get some photos - maybe on the weekend! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Laura - I'm so happy for Talli too! We had five or six inches of snow last week too - but it had mostly disappeared by yesterday. I don't think this stuff is going anyhwere!

L. Diane Wolfe said...

A foot of snow? Last time I saw that was when I lived in Albuquerque.

Jessica Ann Hill said...

We got snow in Ohio this week, too, but only about an inch or so. It's supposed to snow this weekend, but I have no idea how much we're going to get. I'm definitely ready for spring now!

Al said...

Yes indeed, congratulations Talli!
Thanks for the links too.

Connie Arnold said...

Snow is beautiful when you're inside looking out at it, but not so great when you have to get out and go somewhere. Used to do that in Nebraska, not much now in NC. Congratulations on your award!

NENSA MOON said...

Congrats for the awards, Jemie!
you really deserved...

hugs,
nensa

Hilary Melton-Butcher said...

Hi Jemi .. well done on the two blog awards. Isn't it great about Talli - a learning curve for us all .. and Shannon's critique group - as you say lots going on ..

Yes - we have had snow - over a foot on the south coast .. still rather a lot around .. & you - and where are you? Cheers Hilary

Lola Sharp said...

Warmest fall since I've lived here. Nary a flake. Was wearing shorts until yesterday. Today is the first cold day since April.
I'm gonna get swatted for saying this, but I wish it would SNOW. Like, BIG snow. First, it gets me in the mood for Christmas, and second, the kid and husband stay home for a snow day!
Here in southern NJ, they'd have canceled school for the kind of snow you're getting. For far less than that.

CONGRATS on your awards! The eiffel tower one is lovely.

Huggles and Happy Weekend,
Lola

Terry Stonecrop said...

Congrats on the awards:)

Oh Jemi, I don't miss the snow. We're having a cold snap and it's only 68 degrees. I'm so acclimated now, I'm bundled up like Nanook of the North.

I'm happy for Talli! It went great.

Don't shovel too hard!

Golden Eagle said...

Not much snow around here . . . just some spots on the grass, but at least there's a little of the white stuff!

Congratulations on your awards!

Jemi Fraser said...

Diane - lol :) That makes me laugh - we get that several times a year!

Jemi Fraser said...

Jessica - you can't be ready to spring yet!!! I definitely like my snow for Christmas. But when we have it for more than 5 months it gets to be a looooong time! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Al - I was thrilled for Talli too :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Connie - I would imagine there's a whole lot less snow in NC than Nebraska! :) I do like snow - just not for 5 or 6 whole months!

Jemi Fraser said...

Nensa - thank you!! I do have a lot of kind friends :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Hilary - I'm in Northern Ontario - up in Canada. So a foot really isn't that unusual - just a pain until the plows get a chance to fix it up :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Lola - It's been years since they cancelled school for snow. They'll take the busses off the roads, but schools stay open & we need to be there. We have a terrific road crew and they generally keep up really well. :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Terry - thanks! I actually twinged a muscle in my back with the shoveling, but it's pretty much better today thankfully :) I think I'd have a hard time not having snow for Christmas - kind of hard to imagine!

Jemi Fraser said...

Golden Eagle - thanks! At least you've got a bit! Hopefully you get some more before Christmas! :)

Talei said...

Congrats on your awards! We have snow here but nothing like your snow season! ;)

Susan Gourley/Kelley said...

No snow except for a few flurries for us. You can keep it a while longer. Enjoy your awards.

Jemi Fraser said...

Talei - thanks!! We do have a lot of snow compared to a lot of folks :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Susan - thanks! I think we'll be sharing the snow soon! :)

Sage Ravenwood said...

The kid in me is so envious of your snow right now. Although I can't exactly go out to play until I'm feeling better. (Hugs)Indigo

Jemi Fraser said...

Indigo - I bet! The kids had SO much fun playing in the snow at school the last couple of days :) I hope you're feeling better soon!! Take care!

Lisa Gail Green said...

What is this "snow" you speak of? He he he. One thing I don't miss about Michigan, I can tell you that much!

Jemi Fraser said...

Lisa - you don't miss it even a little??? I don't think I would miss the shoveling, but it is so pretty - and it wouldn't be Christmas without it! :)

Susan Fields said...

That's so exciting about Talli's Amazon numbers! We've had a few flakes, but nothing that's stuck around (so far!)

Anonymous said...

We've had snow for weeks now, and we were the third coldest spot in the world a couple of weeks back. But, wow, I know your area was hit hard. Make sure to stretch before shoveling that heavy stuff!

Jemi Fraser said...

Susan - it is exciting!!! Talli deserves it all :)

We had several inches a few times and each time it melted. This time I think it's going to stick!

Jemi Fraser said...

Lynn - You do have some COLD temps out your way! I think it's that wind that whips through your area!

It was heavy to shovel too - not quite cold enough so it was wet. *blech*

Jackee said...

Just a skiff so far! It's supposed to be a dry year, but we'll see.

Congrats on the awards and those are awesome bloggers you've linked up. Thanks for sharing, Jemi!

Carolina M. Valdez Schneider said...

We're supposed to get a bunch of snow, too, but nothing so drastic as your place! Good luck. Get those sleds out!

Congrats on your awards! So happy for Talli!

Jemi Fraser said...

Jackee - thanks! We're supposed to have a lot of snow this year - we'll have to wait and see I guess! Glad you enjoyed the links! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Carol - Im thrilled for Talli too!! We do get quite a lot of snow here! It's all very white right now! Sleds would be good! :)

Julie Musil said...

Yay for Talli! That's such great news. And congratulations to you on your well-deserved awards.

Snow? No. I live in northern Los Angeles County. My area does see snow about once a year, but it's just a dusting and doesn't last. My boys would love to be where you are right now. They love the snow!

Unknown said...

Snow? I dream of snow! It's hot and sticky here in NZ at the moment.

Congrats to Talli! Congrats to you, Jemi, for your award!

Wrap up warmly :)

Patricia Stoltey said...

We've had only a dusting of snow on the northern Front Range of Colorado. As a matter of fact, the weather has been downright balmy a couple of days out of every week. Now that my schedule is calming down, I'm looking forward to a couple of lovely snow days when I feel justified in getting cozy with a cup of tea and a couple of good books.

Jemi Fraser said...

Julie - thank you!

I can't imagine only having snow once or twice a year! Your boys would be having a ball right now!! The first few days were perfect snowman and snowball weather! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Wendy - it's always so fun to hear about the weather around the world! We're at complete opposites :)

Thanks so much!

Jemi Fraser said...

Pat - exactly! There's absolutely nothing like being cuddled up in a blanket with a cup of Chai tea and a really good book when there's a blizzard outside :)

WritingNut said...

Yay for Talli, and congratulations on your awards!

Nooooo.. don't talk about snow yet.. noooo... no snow!

(Um.. can you tell I don't like snow?) ;)

Jemi Fraser said...

Writing Nut - really??? I would never have guessed! :) I like it for a while - it just usually hangs on way too long for me.

Thanks!! :)

Amie Kaufman said...

I'm in Melbourne, Australia, and spent the day out sailing on the bay in shorts and a t-shirt, surrounded by a pod of dolphins. Couldn't be further from winter!

Jemi Fraser said...

Amie - Wow!!!!! I'd love to be there! I've never seen dolphins in the wild and I'd love to! You're living a dream Amie :)

We got a smattering of snow last night in Virginia USA. Today the wind chill is 24. Brrrr.

I really liked The Hating Game. The writing sparkled. So did the characters. I'm glad Talli got that high on Amazon. She worked very hard to get there, and the blogger community supported her.

Talli Roland said...

Congrats on the award, Jemi, and thanks for all your help on the day - here and on Twitter, too!

We had a bit of snow in London (rare), but now it's all gone. That's fine by me!

notesfromnadir said...

Talli did deservedly well!

I really think that's a pretty Creative Blogger Award! Well deserved!

It'd be cool to be in Australia or New Zealand right now in the middle of a heatwave...

Jemi Fraser said...

Ann - you're so right - I'm loving Talli's book as well! :) She's done a great job!

Sounds like Virginia is following in our footsteps! We've had some cold wind chill days as well!

Jemi Fraser said...

Talli - that must have been such a switch snow-wise from the Canadian maritime weather to English weather! :)

You're so welcome - I'm glad things went so well for you!

Jemi Fraser said...

Notes from Nadir - it sure would be different to be in a heatwave! Hard to imagine!! :)

Thanks so much!

RaShelle Workman said...

Jemi - Yes, we've received tons of snow here. My kids love it. =D

Jemi Fraser said...

RaShelle - it's so much fun for the kids. There's nothing quite like that freshly falling snow! :)

Saumya said...

No snow here! Congrats to Talli, she deserves nothing less :) And congrats on your blog awards!! Not surprised at all :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Saumya - I'm so happy for Talli too - she is such a sweetie! Thanks :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Elliot - awww - you're so sweet!! Thank you so much - you have no idea how much that means to me!!! :)

I'm so happy for Talli too! It was a magical week for her!

Thanks again :)

Janna Leadbetter said...

Hello, Jemi, nice to "meet" you. I followed a link and wound up here. Seems we have some of the same bloggy buds. :)

My family and I had vacation last week, and we skiid in lots of snow on some beautiful mountains. Back home now, though, with only cold, no white stuff to give it meaning.

Angela Ackerman said...

W-O-W! I can't believe those numbers! Congrats to Talli and everyone who participated!

Elana Johnson said...

Yeah, snow. Hate it. We were supposed to have the storm of the century just before Thanksgiving, and we got a bit of snow. It's just been COLD, but thankfully, that broke yesterday. It's still cold, but not I want to die cold.

Jemi Fraser said...

Janna - hi! Nice to meet you too! :)

You're right - the cold is tough on its own - but the snow makes it a little bit better somehow! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Angela - I know! Those are terrific numbers - and she deserves them! She's a great person and the book is terrific! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Elana - we had a pretty cool wind chill this morning - almost -20 Celsius - not sure what that is in Fahrenheit anymore! :)

Anonymous said...

Congrats on the awards and I'm happy to hear about Talli.

Jemi Fraser said...

Medeia - thanks so much! I'm thrilled with Talli's success too :)

Patricia Stoltey said...

Many days later...hardly any snow yet here in Northern Colorado except up in the mountains.

Jemi Fraser said...

Patricia - that's surprising! We didn't have snow today, but our wind chill temperature was 31 below. Brrrrr!!!
