Favourite movies are hard! There are sooooo many great ones out there!
Okay - for a movie to have made my list I decided I'd have to have watched it several times and still want to watch it when it comes on late night TV. I could make my whole list from the SciFi genre, but I forced myself to take 4 from other places.
From WAY back...
The Wizard of Oz - I remember waiting desperately for this to come on once a year when I was a kid. The moment when Dorothy opens the door and the movie changes from black and white to colour is pure magic! And the characters are awesome ... the flying monkeys, the lion and most of all the scarecrow! Almost a perfect movie!
The Sound of Music - another one I waited for every year. (Never did figure out why these 2 were considered Christmas movies though.) We even had a record of the songs. I think I can still sing them all word for word!
Regular Movies
Bourne Identity - love the premise and the character and the discovering of layers and layers of deception. Amazing stuff. The books were better than the movies, but I still really enjoyed it!
Blindside - Such a powerful movie! Sandra Bullock is fantastic!
And SF & Fantasy
Star Trek - Wrath of Khan - KHAN!!! Love, love that movie, although when he puts the thing in his ear, I still turn away. :)
Star Trek - Voyage Home - Ridiculous I know, but I love that scene with Spock on the bus and the punk with the stereo. Spock makes that whole movie for me!
Star Trek - the new one. I was so nervous/excited when they decided to start the series in a new direction. Brilliant. Can't wait for #2!
Star Wars - cheating here - counting the original trilogy as one movie! So many great characters, so many great scenes. Love it!
Serenity - It's such a shame Firefly was discontinued before it really had a chance. Such fabulous characters and setting! I could watch this series over and over and over!
LotR - cheating again! I watch these movies several times a year. These are my #1 favourites. It's not only the story line that shines, it's the incredible play of light and shadow, the camera angles, the pauses and silences. Total beauty.
As I read over the list, I realize there's not one single movie on here anyone else in my family would put on their lists! Not one! I do tend to be a little different...
How about you - do you like any of these movies?

Ack! I forgot Blideside. I'm not sure it would have made my list but it deserved to be considered. I forget about it.
Oh, heck. I shouldn't comment late at night. Make that Blindside.
LOTR sounds like a lovely choice :)...Star Trek the Next Generation is also among my favorites :). Captain Jean Luc ...sigh
Great movie list. I've seen all but two of them. Blindside is a good one.
I find that "Wizard of Oz" was just one of those films I hold deep into my heart and some of my childhood nightmares. Flying Monkeys... and those Trees...
Jeremy [Retro-Z]
Howlin' Wolf
My movie choices are different than my families too. I loved Wizard of Oz and LOTR too. Great choices.
Awwww you so get gazillion points for the Star Trek films! Yay! LOL! Take care

Wizard and Sound of Music are two of my favorites, too!
The Lord of the Rings movies were amazingly well-done, I thought.
Linda - I know exactly what you mean! :)
Unikorna - I love TNG too - those movies are some of my faves too :)

Old Kitty - yay! I love all the Star Treks :)
Elizabeth - yay! I agee with LotR, they are so gorgeous! :)
Serenity rocks my list and LOTR is my all-time favorite. Not cheating at all - it is basically one film.
Thanks for participating in my blogfest!
I love the Wizard of Oz and The Sound of Music too - they mean holidays and fun to me because that's when they were always on telly.
Bourne FTW! I've never seen Blindside or heard of it actually, I shall have to check it out.
As for your Sci-Fi and Fantasy choices, brilliant (sssh, don't tell anyone, but I've always had a soft spot for Voyage Home too, and you're right, Spock makes it).
It's funny--I always think of Wizard of Oz as an Easter movie. But I remember those once/year showings, too.
I think Khan was the best of the Trek movies (though I have yet to see the new one).
I'd have to agree with your first two. And I guess the last one is one everyone's list. The in-between, I'd have to think about. I love drama and westerns, like Argo and Girl w/the DT, and Lonesome Dove.
I was introduced to the old Star Trek movies when I used to babysit. Khan!! LOL
I really enjoyed all of them!!
I still want to see The Blindside.
You hit on a lot of my favorites. Can't believe I forgot Serenity.
Oh, I like the Bourne movies... Didn't even think of them (really love Robert Ludlum). Also COULD have put Oz or Sound of Music on if I'd been thinking of them.
woohoo love the fantasy part of the list!
I really have to see Serenity. I'm seeing it a lot today!
Definitely must agree about Sound of Music! Nice list:)
Nice list. I love everything (nearly) sci fi and Star Trek. I DO TOO look away when they're putting that worm creature in their ears. Yikes.
Great list! I'm super excited for the next Star Trek as well=)
What a varied list! I'm with you on Sound of Music. Such a great film.
Firefly deserves to come back but the movie did give it new life. Sweet list.
Love that you categorized, Jemi, although I'm not seeing much contemporary romance on the list. :)
If I'd had one more slot, The Wizard of Oz would have been #11. Happy to see it here.
~VR Barkowski

You made me think of SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS. And I came this close to adding Serenity to my list! :)
I do love 7 Brides too - fun & silly stuff! Serenity is way up there for me! :)
Love Serenity and the Bourne movies too. The Sound of Music is a family favourite. :)

I'm going now...
Gary
Ahhh. The Sound of Music is one of my favs. I'll sing the music for days after watching it. I also love the new Star Trek.
Some great movies you've listed here. Don't feel too bad about listing movies your family's not into. I realized when doing my list that there wasn't a single one on there I could share with my husband.
great list! Julie Andrews is fantastic in Sound of Music...I have lovely childhood memories attached to that one.
I've seen Sound of Music a number of times today. We have it on DVD and my kids love it. A timeless Classic.
I have the same memory of Wizard of Oz. It was such a treat!
Gary - lol :) Stange Brew will only make it when Penny releases her version!
Kari - me too! So many awesome songs in that one!! :)
Emily - so glad I'm not the only one! It can be hard not fitting in with the rest of them! :)
Courtney - me too! Although I think my family more tolerated the movie than loved it! :)
Stephen - it really is a classic for a good reason!
Missed Periods - it really was - adn still is! :)
I'm always so glad when I see others who are fans of BOTH Star Trek and Star Wars. Such unforgettable series. :) Can't wait for the new Star Trek sequel!
The Wizard of Oz is such a classic, too. Always makes me smile.
Interesting choices and a great list of your top tem movies, Jemi!
~Nas~
I love reading or hearing about the movies and books that people like best. I think The Blindside would make it onto my list of favorites, too.
Shelley - I know! Some people only like 1 series or the other - I don't get that!! :)
Nas - thanks! It was fun to put together :)
Cynthia - it's such a good one - even better because of the facts/people behind it!
You have some great picks. I love the Wizard of Oz and, like you, I waited for it to come on every year. The LOTR trilogy is one of my faves and the Bourne trilogy is high on my list too especially with Matt Damon. Oo la la! :)
Mel - wasn't it awesome when the Wizard FINALLY came on TV? The anticipation was so intense!! Matt Damon works very well in that movie :)
now i have the song in my head...the hillllls are allllive...with the sound of music!!
I love The Wizard of Oz. I lost count of how many times I've seen it.
Tammy - my heart will be blessed... Isn't it geat? :)
Medeia - me too! It's such a fantastic movie! :)
THE BLINDSIDE is such a good movie - great pick! And I've had the music from THE SOUND OF MUSIC in my head as I visit all these great blogs... :)

YAY LOTR!!!
Serenity was also a good movie, I recently watched it.
Madeline - I know! I've been reminded of so many great songs too!
Maurice - thanks :)
Ashley - I love the Firefly/Serenity series - so, so good!
Awesome choices. Love adding to my list!
Editors - thanks! I've added a ton to my list too :)
You do have a theme going, Jemi! I suspect you like action films? :)
And fantasy? Just a bit?
I like all of these, but my family LOVES all of these. My favorites are Shawshank Redemption, Casablanca, Steel Magnolias, The Help, A Knight's Tale, Die Hard, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, My Fair Lady, Gladiator, Dr. Strangeglove . . ., Rear Window, Vertigo, The Mouse that Roared, War Horse, Life of Pi, Argo
Now that I look at it, that's a very strange list. I guess I like what I like. But what it comes down to, I think I like characters. The bigger the better. :)
The reboot of the Star Trek movies are amazing (so far! I hope the second one doesn't disappoint). :3
Martina - Just a little bit :) I love your eclectic list too!! I haven't seen all of those yet but the ones I have I like! Can't eve watch Steel Magnolias again though - sobbed SO hard in the theater!
Capillary - I hope so too! But with Abrams and that great cast I think we're in for a treat! :)
Love your first three choice - and the LOTR series is beloved by my whole family!
I'm a big fan of Star Wars, original only. I wish I'd know about this blogfest because it would'v been fun to compile a list.
Beth - thanks! It's fun to see who likes what! :)
Theresa - yeah - I knew enjoyed the 2nd trilogy very much. It really was fun! :)
oh my gosh, I seriously love your movie selection! Brilliant, all of them!
Lynda - yay!!! That's pretty amazing! :)
Ah, The Wizard of Oz is an all time classic. I only have to hear the opening bars of Somewhere Over the Rainbow and I start to sniffle.
Have a great week, Jemi.
Me too, Nas! It's such a beautiful song!! :)
I've really enjoyed reading the entries in this blogfest. I love Sandra Bullock and almost all of her movies. And I agree about the Bourne books being better than the movies. Even with Matt Damon :)
Happy Weekend!
Carol - I agee - Sandra Bullock is great! Another of my faves is Miss Congeniality :)
