IWSG & Dreaming Big

The Insecure Writer's Support Group is the brainchild of Alex J. Cavanaugh. He, his clones, minions, friends, and fellow authors make it an amazing event every month.

Purpose: To share and encourage. Writers can express doubts and concerns without fear of appearing foolish or weak. Those who have been through the fire can offer assistance and guidance. It’s a safe haven for insecure writers of all kinds!

****

December 4 question - Let's play a game. Imagine. Role-play. How would you describe your future writer self, your life and what it looks and feels like if you were living the dream? Or if you are already there, what does it look and feel like? Tell the rest of us. What would you change or improve?

I'm a pretty content person - I like my life the way it is...

BUT

... if I'm dreaming big, then I'd probably add these changes

  • copies of my (multiple!) published books on the shelf in my den
  • a desk where my feet touch the ground and I can sit without pain for an hour at a time
  • someone in the background quietly cleaning my house with products that don't make me sneeze
  • and most important of all - me as a confident author who is able to tackle those major revisions without flinching and without needing more than 2 or 3 revision rounds!

How about you, what's a change that you would/will make if you're dreaming BIG?

Your feet don't touch the ground now? That must feel super weird.

Ooh...I'd like that cleaner to visit my place too!

I like the idea of "my published books on the shelf" in my office too!

Congrats on finishing the draft during November. It was so difficult for me not to edit as I wrote.

I would love for someone else to clean my house.

I’d have to clean my house before I let someone clean my house! 🤷‍♀️

I can't imagine ever getting to the stage of not needing multiple rewrites of my stuff – but that doesn't mean it won't happen for you.

All great goals. I share a few of them as well. ;-)

All great dreams. I am with you on the last one. I'm going crazy revising one of my books. Looks like it will need atleast 2 to 3 revision rounds!

Hi,
I like the fact that you are content. I am too even though I am in the middle of a revision for possible publication by a publisher. Keep up the great work and all the best.

A big hooray for being content. Love your dreams. If wishes were horses I would like to stop feeling inadequate. About everything.

I'd have more time to write for myself. Your dreams sound great.

November is a hard month for writing! I'm creating my own NaNo in January.

I love your last goal! I would love to be able to go through revisions more easily. Or at least faster!

I am SO up for that 'cleaning in the background' person. Why didn't I think of that? And why hasn't anyone else mentioned that because gosh yes!

Sounds like great dreams to me. I especially love the sounds of cleaning. I would add cooking and laundry being done too. :) Then the distractions would be much less!

It does - My hubby is going to take a few inches off the desk one of these days! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Yep! I never did all that much growing!

Jemi Fraser said...

I'll let him/her know! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

I love first drafts - I could write them forever. The editing tries to kill my soul some days so it's easy to ignore!

Jemi Fraser said...

LOL - there are days!

Jemi Fraser said...

It hasn't happened so far, but I'm hoping one day!! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

I see that we do!

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks - those revision rounds can be so tough!!!

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks Pat - and wishing you ALL the luck with that revision!

Jemi Fraser said...

I completely Agee with you on that feeling - maybe one day we'll get there!

Jemi Fraser said...

That's a very good dream - and I think you're getting closer to making that a reality!

Jemi Fraser said...

Good for you - that will be fun!

Jemi Fraser said...

Me too - revisions tend to suck me dry and make me believe I'm the worst writer ever!

Jemi Fraser said...

LOL - yes!!! It's a very important goal - at least to me!

Jemi Fraser said...

I like cooking and baking, but I'm more that willing to have someone do the laundry too! :)

Ah yes, a cleaning fairy would be good ;)

One day!

I love the person quietly cleaning the house in the background part.

And how I would love to be able to wrap up my revisions in two or three rounds. That really is the dream, isn't it?

Happy Holidays!

You have awesome goals. And btw even I struggle to make my feet touch the ground most of the times when I sit.

Ah, someone cleaning the house while I write. Why didn't I think of that? Instead of me typing away thinking of the floors needing the vac, the shelves needing dusting and whatever...Having a shelf of my books in my study is a sweet thought...and doable. Here's to writerly success, Jemi!

cleemckenzie said...

I love your dream, especially the part about someone cleaning your house. Yes. And while they're doing that, you're writing your next blockbuster. I can see it now.

Mason Canyon said...

Great dreams. Here’s hoping all of them become real one day.

Jennifer Hawes said...

Someone quietly cleaning in the background? Why didn't I think of that?? With all the money you'll make with the multiple book deal, you can afford it now:)

Damyanti Biswas said...

Someone else doing the cleaning? Can they also come and do that and some cooking for me please?

Jemi Fraser said...

It sure is!! I feel like I've done 100 editing rounds on most of my books so far - and I'm not done yet!

Jemi Fraser said...

Wouldn't that be awesome!

Jemi Fraser said...

Cheers, Denise! Hoping for the best in 2020!!!

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks Lee! I'd be content with the house cleaning though! :P

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks Mason!! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

LOL - sounds like a plan!

Jemi Fraser said...

We'll see what we can do! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Yep - short people problems! :)

Rebecca M. Douglass said...

I like your list of desired changes! Especially the comfy desk chair and someone doing the housework. I seem to have opted for the version where I don't do it... and neither does anyone else.

Kelly Steel said...

Yes, please...can I have someone cleaning for me too?

Jemi Fraser said...

LOL - nothing wrong with that! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

I know! How great would it be!!!
