Seriously?

I'm human. I don't even mind having to prove it. But when the word verifications start insulting me, it's all a little too much.

Today, as I checked through my blog roll, the word verification on one of the blogs was "hyper". Hmmm. Okay, mildy insulted, but I can live with it. Several blogs later, I get "unredy". One letter off from "unready". I'm getting close to finishing up my wip. Unready? Darn.

Move along a few blogs and a few nonsensical words, and I get "vizzelize". Normally I'd probably skip right over this, but now I'm looking for it. So, am I not visualizing enough in my wip? Should I be visualizing my success? What in the world am I supposed to be visualizing? Hoping for a hint in another blog, I trek onwards...

... I get nothing sensible for a few blogs. I'm lulled - it's been my vivid imagination at work again. Nothing to worry about.

Right. Final blog I visit tonight? The word is... "unhot". Thanks. A bunch. Just what I needed.

So, have your word verifications been haunting you???

On another note (a much less insulting one), I've been blessed again with a few blog awards! You folks are the absolute greatest :)

L. Diane Wolfe at Spunk on a Stick and Arlee Bird at Tossing it Out both awarded me the springy Sunshine Award. We all need a little sunshine in our lives & this is just the ticket! Thank you :)

Roxy Haynie over at A Woman's Write also awarded my the Honest Scrap Award. Thank you Roxy!

I'll save the others for another post!

Today, I'll pass these along to some bloggers I've met recently. Select whichever award you prefer. Remember these are always No Pressure awards - do with them as you will! I hope you get time to check out some of these links. I know you'll feel welcome :)

Wayne over at Bo's Cafe Life - great cartoons!!
Julie over at The Climb
Karen Musings over at Musings of a Novelista
Lisa Rusczyk
Layinda at Layinda's Blog
Lindsey Brooks at Dangerous With a Pen

More next time. Enjoy the blogs that are new to you. And watch out for those insulting word verifications!!!

Ha! Uh, yes. Word ver. is apparently out to get you, good lady. This is sad. It reeks of conspiracy. But congrats on the awards! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks Simon!

When I popped over to mention I was giving an award to one of the folks listed above the word was "cowsw". Definitely a conspiracy!

Tara said...

Ha! I had a weird one the other day, but can't remember it. Just remember it was eerily similar to what the blog post was about in general. Sometimes when I see certain ones I revert back to my 5th grade snickering self...

*prookv* nope, not insulting, not even close to a word...

Jemi Fraser said...

Tara - sometimes they can be pretty bizarre!! And yes, 10 year olds have the silliest sense of humour around :)

Glad you didn't get insulted on my blog!

Shelley Sly said...

Hey there, I stumbled upon your blog via Roxy's, and I just wanted to thank you for making me laugh about those word verifications. Some of them are too funny! I've had a few weird ones, including my personal favorite, "barfus". How pleasant. Anyway, great blog you have here!

Jemi Fraser said...

Hi Shelley - welcome!!

Thanks - I hope you pop back again. "Barfus" may be my new favourite! Harkens back to that 10 year old humour Tara spoke about :)

DL Hammons said...

Ha Ha Ha. That's so funny...not that the cyberworld thinks your unhot...I'm sure your perfectly lovely...but that you assigned meaning to it. I'm already starting to anticipate what word is about to pop up when I depress enter. LOL :)

Kristi Faith said...

You poor thing. That's a rough blogging day. LOL

Jemi Fraser said...

DL - hopefully nothing insulting popped up!

Perhaps I'm taking it a little too personally?? :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Kristi - it sure was!! I'm a little nervous about visiting anyone else who posts tonight!

Livia Blackburne said...

Hehe, maybe I should psychoanalyze you :-)

Jemi Fraser said...

Livia - Yikes! There's a scary thought :)

Unknown said...

LOL, Jemi! Subliminal messages from cyberspace, no fair! The blogging gods better be nicer tomorrow. And just so you know, nothing about your energy or voice is "unhot!"

((hugs)) Nicole

Jemi Fraser said...

Nicole - Yes - I feel very put-upon today :) Thanks for the vote of confidence - badly needed today :) Tomorrow's a new day!

Ann Elle Altman said...

Congrats... I want to own boots like in that award.

Oh, and I'm with you on the word verification...they drive me crazy...but sadly, I think my site has them.

ann

Jemi Fraser said...

Ann Elle - Thanks! I have black & white checkered rubber boots! Love them. Wish I had some sunny yellow ones, though :)

I think most of them do. I'm not sure how to change it - or if it's better just to leave them be. They entertain me at least!

Karen Strong said...

Thanks for the award, Jemi! :)

Now I'm wondering what my word will be for this comment? Hmmm...

Jemi Fraser said...

Karen - you're so welcome!!

Good luck - I'm crossing my fingers... :)

Stephanie Thornton said...

Yeah, those word verifications can be pretty goofy sometimes! Congrats on your awards!

WonderBunny said...

haha on the word verifications. I didn't even notice them today.

Jemi Fraser said...

Stephanie - thanks! And they certainly have been a little nutty tonight :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Ruthann - lucky you! I wish I hadn't been paying attention :)

Anissa said...

Word verification is EVIL! And sometimes freaking hilarious. But mostly evil.

Jemi Fraser said...

Anissa - I'm voting it's evil tonight :)

Maybe tomorrow I'll get something a little more pleasant!

Congrats on the awards. I get nonsense words that sound like they could be real words for the captchas.

erica m. chapman said...

Gotta love those word ver. crazy. I always get excited when I get a real word... lame I know ;o) Congrats on the awards!

Tiffany Neal said...

Heehee! This made me laugh!!

Anonymous said...

HOw cool! Congratulations!! :)

Roxy said...

I happen to love the word verification, Jemi. Call me insecure, but I feel like they are an IQ test of sorts. It makes me so happy when I pass! Especially when I get words which resemble Finnish caligraphy or ancient Ogham script, and I keep shifting my gaze from the screen to my fingers on the keyboard. I watch the little processing wheel whirr, saying a silent prayer that this time I won't be rejected. Do you think word verification is run by a literary agent? That would actually explain a lot.

Shannon O'Donnell said...

LOL! That is too dang funny! By the time I read them all I was laughing out loud.

Congrats on your awards Jemi. Clearly, we think YOU are the absolute greatest! :-)

Mason Canyon said...

Congratulations on the awards, well deserved. And thanks for some great new links to check out.

I've had a few words relate exactly what I was feel so I can totally relate.
Also, congratulations on your awards. A lovely week to you my dear.

JournoMich said...

I can't tell you how many times I've thought about posting on word ver! I get the funniest words and I always want to know what other people are getting. You are so funny!

Jemi Fraser said...

Medeia - they definitely are odd sometimes!!!

Jemi Fraser said...

Erica - you're not the only one - I like the real words too. Well, usually :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Tiffany - thanks :)

It was funny!

Jemi Fraser said...

Michelle - thanks - it was fun :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Roxy - that's priceless! Maybe they're testing our abilities. Yikes - maybe I'm not passing! At this point, it wouldn't surprise me at all :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Shannon - thanks so much - you're a sweetie!

Glad I could entertain with my insults :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Mason - thanks Mason! Hope you enjoying meeting some of my friends :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks Simone. I've had other odd ones too - and they often seem to match my mood. Hmmm.

Enjoy the week as well!

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks Michele!

Glad to know I'm not the only one word verification is affecting!! :)

T. Powell Coltrin said...

But you have to admit sometimes word verif. makes you chuckle.

Alix said...

I absolutely hate word verification because it always takes me two tries, livejournal seems especially hard!

The only place I like it is on Diana Peterfreund's blog, where she has it set to words from her novels. It always makes my day when I get Poe (my fave character). Yes, it doesn't take much to make me happy :)

Congrats on the awards.

Jemi Fraser said...

JW - it certainly does! At least when I'm not under attack :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Alexa - it does take me longer to type nonsense words!

I didn't realize you could do that. I'll have to check out Diana's blog. Sounds like fun!

It doesn't take much for me either, so this sounds great! Thanks :)

L. Diane Wolfe said...

Woo-hoo!

And I'm hyper too, so it's okay.

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks Diane - glad I'm not alone!! :)

Helen Ginger said...

I'm not fond of word verifications, although I see the need for them sometimes. The plus is that they often make me laugh because they will pop up and be totally relevant to the post itself.

Congratulations on all of your awards, much deserved. And thanks for the honor of your bestowing one on me! Being slightly technically challenged, I have no idea how to select one. Do I just tell you ?

fxherdrit. :)

Lisa Rusczyk said...

Haha @ unhot! Thanks so much for the award. :)

Elana Johnson said...

Oh, my heck, I can't stop laughing! I've never paid much attention to my word verifications, certainly not to see if they're insulting me! Yikes!

And congrats on the awards. :)

VR Barkowski said...

Congrats on the awards, Jemi!

I've received some interesting word verifications too. 'Course I can't remember any of them at this moment. But I'm convinced they aren't random, and someone at Google is getting their jollies at my expense. Paranoid? Who,
me? :)

Unknown said...

I'm like you, Jemi. I always pay attention to word verification too. Have no idea why? However, if you're writing fantasy it's not a bad place to discover new names! Just a thought...

All the best finishing your MS :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Helen - it is odd how many of the 'words' are relevant - or at least I can twist them to be relevant :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Layinda - you're most welcome.

Sorry, I forgot to post the regular rules for the awards!! Just select whichever you like and post it on your blog for all to admire :)

If you'd like to pass it along, just name them and link to their blogs. I usually try to pop over to their blogs to let them know they have an award.

Honest Scrap does have an extra rule (I ignored it because I've already done it, plus I don't mind breaking rules!). You're supposed to list up to 10 honest things about yourself. It's fun. You could click on the award label of my blog to see what kinds of things I listed if you like. It's maybe in Nov or Dec of last year.

Hope that helps :)

Jemi Fraser said...

You're welcome Lisa!

Yup, that's pretty much how I felt when I read it!

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks Elana - it was pretty funny watching them come up!! :)

Jemi Fraser said...

VR - I'll join you on the paranoia wagon! Especially after these words!!!

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks Wendy!

I've actually used one of the word verifications (with one spelling change) for a word in my Steampunk :)

Patricia Stoltey said...

Hi Jemi -- It appeared to me you don't have nearly enough awards, so I'm passing on another one. :)

Drop by http://patriciastoltey.blogspot.com whenever you have time.

Sara {Rhapsody and Chaos} said...

lol :) I'm not gonna lie! I've used some of the word verification nonsense words in my own work. Like last names and cool sounding words.

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks Patricia! I'll pop on over. :) You're a sweetie!

Jemi Fraser said...

Sara - I have too!! Some of the words have sparked ideas for new inventions for the Steampunk I'm working on :)

Anne Spollen said...

I thought I was the only one who paid attention to those verifying words. Alone in the house one night, I got "thead" which my brain immediately unscrambled. I turned the computer off.

Word people.

I hate that stupid wrd vrifik8shun. Half the time I can't read it. I've learned to copy my comments so if I lose it while trying to submit I can paste it and try again.

Congrats, Jemi. And sorry about your word verification subliminal messages. Don't believe them for a second. They are patently untrue!

Jemi Fraser said...

Anne - lol :) I would have done the same thing!! There should probably be a few restrictions on what words can be made :)

Jemi Fraser said...

Stephen - I've done the same things. Having the letters r and n together drives me batty. I have to retry it every time!!

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks Cat! I hope they're untrue - cause even though my weeks been nutty-busy again, it's been a lot better than the words implied :)

Carolina M. Valdez Schneider said...

Oh my word, you're funny! Haha! Very cute. And congrats on your awards!

Today's word verification? Gunth

Not sure what that means, but it feels kind of like an insult.

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks Carol :)

Gunth - makes a good insult for sure. Maybe I'll snitch it for my Steampunk!

cleemckenzie said...

I love it when word ver. comes up with something creative, especially when I can't! Too often, I fear. How does WEEDUNK work for something of no consequence?

Here's to the award queen! Congrats and keep having fun.

Jemi Fraser said...

SotE - Strangely, word verification can be quite fun! I like Weedunk! Doesn't mstch this novel, but maybe the next one!!

Thanks so much :)

Susan Gourley/Kelley said...

Sometimes those words do make me laugh. The funniest ones are the ones I get on facebook when I post a link.
I'm sure you deserve all those wonderful awards.

Jemi Fraser said...

Thanks Susan :)

I haven't joined Facebook yet. Just no time to add something else to my schedule!

I found an idea for a book in one word verification suggestion. A play on words that kept me amused for ages.

Jemi Fraser said...

Elaine - gotta love the writer's brain! We're always looking for angles :)
