As a writer, my A to Z challenge is going to be about books, characters, TV shows and movies that have impacted me somehow. Enjoy! Be sure to check out Lee’s blog to find more bloggers taking on this challenge!
Ranger’s Apprentice I only discovered this series a couple of years ago – thanks to Elana Johnson on twitter during a #yalitchat or a #kidlitchat. I asked for books boys in my class would like and she said this was sure to be a hit. She was right – with the added bonus that my girls love it too. The setting is medieval and the main character, Will, isn’t your typical hero. He’s smaller than average, a little bit awkward – and he doesn’t get his dream come true. And that works out really well for him. It’s a great series - tons of adventure!
Do you like stories with medieval settings? How about unexpected story twists?

I just started reading this series and I really love it. Great pick!
I want to start this series. I'm planning on getting the first book in the series in audio version as soon as I finish the one I'm reading now.
Fantasy is one of my favorite genres! Got hooked back in the 70's on the Shannara series by Terry Brooks.
I don't really read that many in this genre or setting. I guess I just have too many in others in my TBR. However, thanks for mentioning it.
SL - it's such a great series!! Lots of adventure :)
Natalie - I think you'll love it. The adventures are exciting and full of fun!
Alex - I fell in love with the Shannara series too. Such fabulous stories!
Clarissa - my TBR pile is soooooo long too. I wish I could spend even more time reading! :)
You're adding to my TBR pile. Thanks,
T
Name of the Rose - medieval and twisty - but it's one big heavy litfic to be read when hiding from a storm with thunder and lightning raging outside!
Take care

I've heard good things about this book (from students, actually) so I'll have to pick it up!
That does sound good! And a book that appeals to both is pretty cool. It's hard to find a book that does both.
P.S. I gave you a little shout out on my blog today while talking about Giver's Gain. And I quoted you over on From The Write Angle too! :)
Thanks, Jemi, for all you do!
Yes, in answer to your questions about a Medieval setting. I also love finding books for boy readers. Thanks Jemi.
One of my FAVORITE middle grade series!!!! L-O-V-E!!!:-)
Never heard of this series but should check it out for my son!
I haven't read too many books in that time period, so I should probably try more of them and see if I like them. As for unexpected story twists, yes, I love them. And I'm fairly gullible, so I'm invariably fooled...and enjoy every minute of it.
Teresa - I know! Sorry :)
Old Kitty - I don't know that one - sounds like fun!
Shelley - I always have a few students who whip through the series! Great story!
Jean - thanks! You're a total sweetie-pie!! :)
Lee - you're welcome! Medieval times are a lot of fun to read about :)
Shannon - isn't it great??? Will is such a fun character :)
Johanna - if he enjoys adventure and fun, he'll probably like it!
Pat - I thought that was just me! I've always sucked right in. It sure adds to the fun :)
Love this series too and medieval is my favorite setting.
Susan - medieval is such a fun setting! So many great stories :)
This is new to me. Must give it a look see. I'm loving Game of Thrones right now. Just finished Graceling. I'm a sucker for a good sword fight.
Leslie - I loved Graceling! Sword fights are such fun ... well, in a book they are! :)
Love medieval settings AND unexpected twists. My kids have these books, but I haven't read them. Guess I should. Thanks.
Nichole - me too! They're really enjoyable - even as an adult - lots of fun and adventure :)
Sounds like a great book series. I'll have to look for them.
Susanne - I think you'd love them! They're great adventures :)
I'm going to check this series out. I like medieval settings.
Medeia - it's a great MG adventure, but I loved it as an adult too :)
