In Death

As a writer, my A to Z challenge is going to be about books, characters, TV shows and movies that have impacted me somehow. Enjoy! Be sure to check out Lee’s blog to find more bloggers taking on this challenge!
In Death series

I talk a lot about kids’ books. They really are a passion of mine. But, my favourite books to read for myself are romantic suspense. Nora Roberts/JD Robb does this extremely well. I love the Eve Duncan In Death series. Eve’s one of the most complex characters I’ve ever met. I also love the setting – 2060ish in New York City. Robb has created a very realistic near future – neither utopian or dystopian. I wouldn’t be in the least surprised that many of her predictions turn out to be right on.
What book or show do you think portrays a realistic vision of our future?

Nora Roberts and JD Robb are one and the same? And I've never read either one! I'll get to it I'm sure since it's a genre I enjoy! I have a ton of James Patterson books on my iPad.

Congrats on 500! That's awesome! Although I'm hearing rumors that GFC is going away on Blogger blogs too! They may regret that since it's one of the main reason some bloggers avoid transferring. I don't follow anyone through GFC anymore because I don't trust Google!

I do enjoy this series. She does a great mix of futuristic elements with what we'd consider normal and current. It's not over the top sci-fi, and yet that element is there.

I've never heard of the In Death series before, but I love Nora Roberts so I might have to check them out!

I have never heard of In Death, perhaps it haven't reached my side of the pond.

Congrats on your 500, I too passed my 500 on this challenge.

I think dragons will rule the skies in the future therefore the Hobbit is the most realistic vision of our future... ;)
(I couldn't resist)

Great recommendation!! I'm a bit of a cynic and think Orwell's 1984 is spot on! LOL!

Take care

Realistic? Be nice if it was Star Trek.

Beth - they are one and the same - both great authors out of the same brain :) And thank you! I'm terrible at noticing numbers - I hadn't realized :)

Shannon - she does! I like sf, but I know people who love this series and really don't enjoy sf at all :)

Kyra - it's a great series - written in the same kind of tone as her other work except with a recurring cast of characters and a futuristic setting.

Yvonne - thank you! I'm surprised In Death hasn't made it across!

Lynda - nor should you! That would be pretty cool!! :)

Old Kitty - Big Brother is watching us! :)

Alex - Star Trek would be very nice! IDIC could definitely rule :)

Ooh, I've never read any of J.D. Robb's stuff (or Nora Roberts', for that matter), but this sounds like something I'd like!

I've heard a lot of good things about her and her books. Thanks for this.

I've never read any of her books, but she is ALWAYS on the bestseller table whenever I visit a bookstore!

I don't know if I've ever read something or seen a movie that portrayed a vision of the future that didn't involve being taken over by robots. I'd like to check this one out. Although, I kind of wish the Jetsons was realistic.

I've always hear this was a great series, but never read any before. Guess now I need to go check them out. My to-read list based on this A-Z challenge is becoming a bit overwhelming.

I love this author, she's great. I haven't read this one, but I'm definitely checking it out. Thank you for sharing! :)

I loved all the Star Trek TV shows and movies. I can see some of their technology being ours one day.

One book I read set slightly in the future was about a face transplant called 'Second Nature' by Jacquelyn Mitchard'.

I really thought we'd be living in a world like the cartoon THE JETSONS by now. I'm a little disappointed I'm not flying to work in my space ship.

I've read some of Nora Roberts' romances but not her suspense novels yet. I'll have to pick one up at the library!

Shelley - Eve is a strong kick-ass kind of gal with a heck of a past. I think you'd like her! :)

Clarissa - you're welcome! They're well worth a read :)

Julie - she is! She's a prolific author who writes for 8 hours a day - every day!

MP - good point! I always wanted a jet car like the Jetsons - and maybe a Rosie to clean up after us!!

SL - mine too! I've added a ton of books - and we're only on I!!!

Amy - I think so too! She's writes great complex stories that pull me right in!

Teresa - agreed! And if our world followed the ST Universe, we'd be pretty well off!

Tamara - that sounds intriguing! Our technology is getting so close to doing this (I think??? they've done a few with accident/burn victims???)

Leslie - wouldn't it be great to pop on off and take the upper highways!! :)

Laura - I really enjoy all of her work - the In Death series is great! :)

I hadn't heard of this series before, but the premise sounds like something I'd really enjoy!

*clicks over to Goodreads to add to ever growing TBR list*

Thanks for the recommend! :)

Kristi - I really like the series - lots of great character development and terrific plots! :)

I don't know of a novel I would guess shows the most likely future. Most of them describe pretty scary worlds.

Jemi Fraser said...

Susan - and that's one of the many reasons I like the In Death series. It's realistic - with all the good and bad that will likely come with it :)

Susanne - thanks! Never thought that number would show up here!!! :) I'm kind of hoping that the Walking Dead's version of our future isn't the correct one!

I have a friend who loves Nora Roberts, but I've never read any of her books. I just might have to put them on my list for this summer!

I haven't read this series, but I believe I've read one or two Robb books.

I can't think of any books. Most of the futuristic books I've read are dystopian. I'm sure I've come across some that have the future follow a regular path, in which there hasn't been great upheaval and the government isn't totalitarian.

Jemi Fraser said...

Stephanie - Nora is a continual best seller for a reason! She's got a great style :)

Medeia - I've read so many dystopians too. Hopefully those futures won't play out the way they're written!

Haven't read any of her books!
Hmm... I'm not sure what books portray a realistic vision of our future. I certainly hope it's not The Hunger Games!

Jemi Fraser said...

Rachel - I hope not too! Can you imagine Snow and those Capitol folks being in charge??? *shudder*

Haven't read anything from this line, but I do enjoy romantic suspense.
